Kolbe & Kolbe vs Kensington
Comments (5)I am only familiar with the Kolbe. But if warranties are the same, and the ratings have been certified (ask to see NFRC Certificate), then it's a matter of price over performance. The slight difference can make a noticable difference. Interestingly, the unit with the lower U value (which is better) has a higher Solar Heat Gain Coefficient, which is not better. The lower the SHGC, the less heat gain, and the less cooling costs will be. The difference would be hard to calculate. It would depnd on your HVAC system, and a few other things. The other issue is you are not comparing apples to apples, in regards to installed vs uninstalled. Can you get the Kolbe's mulled together and installed for less than $4K? 42 windows is a decent amount of windows, so I'd get a quote on installation. Wouldn't make sense to save $4k on windows, only to end up paying $6k for the install....See MoreKolbe and Kolbe Impact Glass windows
Comments (5)Kritlyn-We got our Hurd bid back yesterday and if we use Hurd versus Kolbe and Kolbe we will save about 20%. We have a lot of windows and doors so this adds up. But then I started looking up more about Hurd and some people have apparently had problems with them. There was even a class action law suit about some gas trapped in the windows. However, all this information was years ago and it wasn't talking about the impact rated windows. (Plus, Hurd has since been bought out and is under new managment..good or bad I don't know) I have also read one site where people didn't like Kolbe and Kolbe. But I know that in the San Destin area a lot of people use both Kolbe and Kolbe and Hurd for their impact windows. We don't know what we are going to do yet. Apparently our contractor has never heard of Hurd. They didn't say we couldn't use them but they did emphasize how comfortable they are with Kolbe and Kolbe. Then again, we do stand to save a lot of money and the Hurd windows have been repeatedly tested and are Miami Dade rated. This is hard isn't it?! I am putting a link because I found it difficult to find any impact information on Hurd's site. Apparently, their impact product is fairly new but there have been a few hurricanes where the windows got tested in the real world. If you find out something let me know too. Thanks. I wonder if I should start a new posting with Hurd in the title to attract those with any information about Hurd Impact. Maybe I will do that so look there too and hopefully we will learn something. Thanks. Here is a link that might be useful: Hurd Feel Safe...See MoreMarvin ultimate vs Kolbe & Kolbe vs Peachtree
Comments (15)The window order came in on monday less than four weeks from ordering altho 8 windows are on back order not sure which ones. I am assured by next Wed. latest. We are having the dealer store them for a couple weeks until roofing is finished we have been having major rain delays. From what I could see of the windows in the warehouse they are beautiful. I am regreting the unfinished interior as I will have to prime and paint. I will post pictures if I can figure out how to do it. This is after I track down the dupont flex flash and make sure the installers know how to use it. We have used Zip-Panels for exterior sheathing and are wondering if we should have used tyvek instead. All of this is so installation intensive and since I am at the mercy of the installers... Thank you to all who have posted to help my decision....See MoreKolb and Kolb Windows
Comments (4)and the name of the company is KolbE & KolbE. I understand what your saying but as was also stated above who made the glass, what type of glass is in the windows and what type of glass did you order? To say the windows were made for this region or that region is not truly correct, but what type of glass is recommended for your particular area....See Morepebbles396
