Opinions on Marvin Integrity (wood-ultrex) and Marvin Infinity

I'm looking at replacing the existing windows in my Tudor style home in NJ. I'm looking at a combination of casement and double hung windows (w/bronze exterior).

We've had quotes for wood windows from both Marvin Ultimate and Andersen A series and we recently got a quote for Okna - as to cover both ends of the price vs quality spectrum (wood vs. premium vinyl).

Are the Marvin Integrity (wood-ultrex) and Marvin Infinity worthy contenders in terms of quality, cost and efficiency?

Tough to say where that pricing will shake out on the Integrity and Infinity.

You have looked at some nice samples there of the different materials.

Make sure you are comparing installation details in the same capacity.

You are looking at three product materials with different pros and cons. I can say that each product that you've seen is highly regarded, but for very different reasons. You will want to assess your priorities for the project to determine which is the best fit. All are well made quality products.

-Performance?
-Appearance?
-Cost?
-Value (very different than cost)?
-Warranty?
-Longevity?
-Option content?
-Perception by others (including guests and/or future buyers of your home)

If I could make a chart, the Okna would skew toward performance, value, cost, and warranty, the Ultimate toward appearance, perception, option content, and the Integrity/Infinity as somewhat of a bridge between the two. Not as good in the "good" areas of each choice, but not as bad in their weaker areas either. Whether that makes it a "glass half-empty" or "half-full" proposition depends on your perspective.

I think your GC is a little off. We just did a high end house with Integrity/Wood. Unless they have changed recently, the Ultrex/Wood looks a lot nicer on the outside also. See the link below to our house. The Wood/Ultrex turned out really well. These pics are at the end of construction, they look even better now. I have had these for a little over a year now and am very pleased with them. Our builder leaned towards "cheaper" windows also (he preferred WIndsor). To me, Windows are one of the most important aspects of construction. You are talking $5k or so on an $800k house. Don't scrimp on windows, doors or plumbing fixtures. Thanks, windowsonwashington. And to the novice, I've done some further digging and I now feel dumb about the amount I was about to pay for windows. I did not realize the mark-up until I priced the Ultimate and Integrity product without the installation (Do this first if you can before you invite anyone into your house. I did not). On average, I was being charged $1700 per window for window and install of the Marvins (Integrity, Infinity and Clad) and about $1,050 per Inline window installed. This seems a lot given that only a few were full frame replacement. Worse, only one of the six quote did a decent job explaining the installation process. A word of advise to folks window shopping, be discipline, methodical, analytical and do not treat the process as something to get done immediately (though I understand why you would feel this way). If you do, you likely will be taken advantage of. Do yourself a favor and give yourself the time to work through the process. Also, there's lot of misinformation out there about the superiority and inferiority of one product vis a vis another. Caveat emptor certainly applies for a purchase this costly. Another thing, read the warranty before you sign. By doing this, I was able to rule out the Infinity product, much as I liked the aesthetic of the casement. I'm sure there's more to come.

In my opinion, the Marvin Integrity that is all ultrex in and out is just plain ugly and cheap looking. The Infinity is a much nicer looking window. I also remember a Marvin rep telling me a few years back that Infinity utilized a thicker guage fiberglass and it was built better. The jamb on the integrity is very narrow and not 3 1/4 like most replacement windows. I do not like the Integrity ultrex at all.

My daughter has purchased a new home with 50 year old double hung windows that need to be replaced. It is a colonial home in Massachusetts several miles from the coast. She is trying to decide between the Anderson 400 series and the Marvin Integrity. She wants to stay with the same traditional 6 over 6 white double hung windows. Any thoughts on which is better - the Marvin Integrity, or the Anderson 400 Series?

... let me add that those Pros and Cons are regarding the comparison of these specific products and their respective materials. For instance, the Marvin product line is actually a very good performer as WOOD products go, and the Okna is very attractive as VINYL products go.
My recommendation would be to pick the material that best suits your needs/goals FIRST, and then pick the product line. :)

@ windowsonwashington - can you please provide me with some advise as it relates to comparing installation detail? Do you mean new construction vs. replacement? or the way in which they actually install the windows (materials used etc)?
