Screens or no screens?

I went all the way back to July's messages, and could not find an answer to my question. Does anyone use window screens anymore? Granted, we are in the South, and the few perfect days we are able to open windows without humidity or rain are rare, but every once in a while, I wouldn't mind opening the windows and having a nice breeze, without bugs or gnats. He's giving them to us (they're in our attic) but recommended not hanging them because they're just not attractive. Am I in a time warp or something?

SW Mich and we use screens all the time, 4 months at least plus family gatherings in the middle of the winter, door and window.

I live in the south and enjoy open windows in the spring and fall. I like screens.

win 98 getting kind of old!!! From you description: keyboard lights blink and the mouse light comes on, hear the fan whirring and soft beeps coming from the monitor and the tower. To me that sounds like it's posting correctly, check you cable monitor connections first. Then try another monitor.

I've had rats make burrows/tunnels through 3/4" gravel. They are incredible animals and very persistent. As far as the actual composting goes, makes no difference so it would be a personal issue. If you are putting attractive food in the compost and there are rodents in your area, then you might want to think about a barrier. Having said that, rats will chew through the plastic so no guarantees either way.

Screened in porch screenings?

I received sample screening from pfifer for screened in porch. I currently have aluminum screening but it's starting to wear. I've owned the house 10 years but I know it was don't much earlier then that. Mosquitoes, bees, stink bugs are the ones in looking to keep out. But I noticed birds hitting into the screen by accident. They have a pet screen which seems to be good but they don't have durability of a bird making a joke in it. I read allot about all the types but don't want to keep patching spots. I know the current viewing is clear where you can't tell I have it screened. It's nice keeping the bugs out. Thanks

Hum... screens not being attractive? I have to disagree on this. Screens have came a long way. They now come in different shades and different amount of holes per square inch which helps them to be less visible.

I used to have windows without the screens. I live in Texas and we have so many beautiful days that I'd loved to open the windows but could not. The mosquitoes truly believe that I'm their buffet. Without the screens, I wouldn't dare inviting them into my home. Seriously, who wants to be their dinner?

I recently replaced all my windows with double panes and with screens for 3 reasons: energy sufficient, minimized the train noise and the ability to open the windows. The windows also have LoE2 film in between the glasses. When looking from the outside, the windows are tinted and the screens blend into it so well that it's almost invisible. From the inside, the net is so fine that is not even noticeable.

I now looking forward for good weather to allow me opening the windows. It's just that perfect time of the year down here in Houston, Texas for letting some fresh air into your home.

Hang up your screens and see if you like them. You can always take them out if you don't. If you don't like your current screens, you can also look for some that are less noticeable and would blend in to your existing windows better. Try matching the frame of the screen with your window frame and choose a screen shade that is less noticeable.
