Thank you all very much! I made it my mission to find this gift yesterday. I targeted Pottery Barn, Steinmart and Homegoods, because they are all within a few mile radius. I did Pottery Barn first, because I had more of an idea of what they were like from reviewing their site. This was my first time in one. Just based on the store, I would bet anything that she shops there. So that was an incentive. I went in being inclined towards white. But the throw was white white, and I think her white sofa might be a creamy white. I talked it over with a sales woman, and she had had the same issue with her daughter’s sofa. She brought out a grey and white one they had in the back, and opened it for me. It’s this one, in Grey ombre. Despite what the site shows, the patterning is very subtle on the grey one. And, they were 20% off that day. The texture was amazing. I immediately wanted one for myself, but don’t want to spend that kind of money on me, as I do have plenty of throws and afghans around. I decided to check the other stores to see I could find anything I liked more for her, and maybe for me too. I went to Steinmart. Another store I’d never been in (probably because of the name). The housewares section reminded me a lot of Kohl’s. I found some throws right away, a several big racks of them, very inexpensive, but a far cry from the quality of the Pottery Barn ones. I decided I could use one at the foot of my bed. But I use a handmade quilt on mine (cream, peach, rose, and several soft shades of green), and the patterns and colors of most faux furs just won’t go. Even if in my head, I try to make them go. I was about to leave, and then thought, “No, someone on my thread said she found a nice one, they must have another section…” I looked, and found the nicer ones in the back with the blankets. Some very realistic ones, similar to the Tahari one Sheeisback posted. So if you go there, look in that section. About 1/3 the price of Pottery Barn, slightly shorter fur, and quality not quite as luxurious, but certainly good enough for me. They also had velour with “berber” nubbly fleece backing, in colors that would go much better with my bed. So, much though my perpetually cold short-haired kitty would really love snuggling in a fake fur at the foot of my bed, I’m really not buying it for her. I was starting to get hungry and burn out, which makes me indecisive. I took pictures. Then left and saw a Tuesday Morning 2 doors down. Walked in and though they had a small selection of the velour ones backed with nubbly fleece, I found one in a seafoam green that looks like it will coordinate better than any of the fur ones. It is oversize, 60 x 70. I bought it, but still may go to Home Goods and compare before I unpack it and cut off all those little plastic thingies. So thank you all for your help. I feel confident in my gift choice for my DIL now. Now, I just need something for my son… :)

Your room seems to be gray and greige, but the new rug looks to be off-white with a navy and yellow pattern. Look for pillows with those colors. Choose patterns or solids as long as the colors match the rug. Look for curtains that pull the color up onto your walls. I prefer contrast in my decor, so I show a navy that would stand out from your walls. And, look for some art for opposite the curtains that contains those colors.

Love the new floors. The staircase makes the rug placement a little awkward. I don't think round will work, the space is a little tight. I think 4 by 6 is a nice compromise between a too-small rug and one that it is slightly too big and ends awkwardly by the stairs.

I'm guessing that one of you inherited grandmother's home, and you moved your own casual slip-covered style sectional into it. That explains the total contradiction with the drapes, tables, rug and mirror. It is a very large rug; maybe too big for a bedroom if your home is small. I see why you like it; the colors are appealing, but I doubt it has much value. Certainly worth finding out, but my own experience is that no one will pay you what it is worth. My 5x7 Qum was purchased in the 70's for $2,500. Appraised at $5,000 in the late 80's and can't get $800 for it today, although the original appraiser said it should be worth $10,000+ by now. Depends on where you are and who might pay for it, if you decide you're not keeping it. If you intend to keep all the original furnishings of the home, you should probably plan to style new purchases to fit in well with granny's stuff. Otherwise, you could have a "living" estate sale and get rid of the items that have no real sentimental or high $$ value to you.
