Never had borers in blueberries but they can be real tough. At the very least, you need to search all plants for entry holes and go after worms with a stiff wire. A hypodermic needle and BT might be helpful depending on species but the preferred poison is Lorsban for most borers and it is restricted in at least some states, being an organophosphate. I would use my cooperative extension for exact diagnosis- try to find a larva.

Alot of people will laugh and skoff at this -- but here goes anyway! I have done this on several pieces of furniture-- It does work. Once you have the glove drawers totally finish free--Raw wood- Carefully take the tops off -- Take your time -- they may be screwed, nailed, tacked, or glued. Any combo of these may be present. If this scares you may need to talk to a "in-person" restorer. Just remember they were in pieces once -- and with care they can be disassembled. Once you have the CLEAN/FINISH-free tops. You can actually lay them on the warm grass with the bow up -- put a heavy object on top and check them often and do not leave them out in the rain -- only warm sunny days work here. I have done 2 dropleaf walnut table sides this way. Trouble is that walnut in particular will actually bow the opposite way if you leave it out too long. Been there done that!! Once it is flat again -- bring it in out of the sun and moisture (which comes out of the ground (unless you live in a desert)). AS soon as you can --- seal ( with finish of your choice) BOTH SIDES of the wood. I know Im am risking all sorts of doubters here -- but I have done this at least 4-5 times on various parts and pieces. Sometimes it has taken two days in the sun out on my (flat space) lawn. Only walnut has reversed its warp by leaving out too long.I just turned the part over and did it over while watching it closer. Oak seemed to unwarp and stay where it should. Good luck -- I know this sounds overly simplistic -- but IT WORKS!!

Wow Talk about some great info you all rock. I will try to answer the few questions I saw, if I miss anyone just reply. I am in Texas not chicago area. I do think the short square one is walnut , someone else say it and thought it was earlier in the year. The short square one appears to be mostly solid with veneer on both sides, but not on the top or the draw faces. The shorter of the two serpentine fronted ones has veneer on the drawer fronts but appears to have a solid top. The taller of the two sperpentine fronted ones has veneer on drawer fronts and on the top. I'm not sure about where I will sell them, probably craigslist or ebay. If anyone is intrested let me know. I will post them soon for $250.00 for each of the birdseye serpentine fronted ones and $175.00 for the short square one. I know thats on the high end of the sugjested price range, but I don't have to sell them so it's not a biggie. Thank you all so very much for your time and great info. Chris

I'd love to see a picture....I suspect it's an Empire style dresser from about 1830 to 1850... The chest that I have that my great great grandfather made has a similar problem....and sometime someons put brass headed thumb tacks on the drawer sides where it slid on the body of the chest. Also, mine is so worn sown on the slider part that the 1/16 inch of the thumb tack helps it fit. Closed there is a 1/3 inch gap at the top of the drawer. Also, the thing in the center of the drawer that is supposed to glide between to pieces of wood on the chest itself....perhaps they are out of alignment. And the old solution was either parrafin, candlewax or soap. As how to combat the jumble....hmmm...mine now holds family pictures, but growing up it was the hat, scarf, mittens and a shawl to wrap up in while watching TV.... But how about purses/ Sweat shirts....or even extra linens....and use your linen closet for folded sweaters.
