In a couple hours since I've posted, both of the smaller plants are back to normal. Like nothing happened. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Very interesting. This outright rules out any root problem. IMO any root problem is no/cannot be reversible. Wilting like what I see in the picture, can be due to TWO things: ___ extreme thirst' ___ extreme heat/sun In both above cases, plant will perk up after watering and after the source of heat/sun has gone. You say you water them every other day. But is it possible that you forgot watering for much longer than that ? OR maybe it is not just enough. It happens to me all the time. Just a week ago some of my tomato seedlings were wilting to the point of dying: THE CAUSE: thirst. After watering, they perked up but the lower leaves did not recover. Sure, soil less medium is better but I have grown all kinds of things in pots filled with garden soil. The problem with compaction and root bounding is that the pot cannot hold enough moisture for a long time (maybe not for one day), in the dog days of summer. Probably you have summer like weather in Florida right now ? THE BOTTOM LINE SOLUTION (imo) re pot them with soil less potting mix into a bigger pot. Hope all this is worth couple of pennies. But I am not asking for anything. hehe

Fly, Jane's been doing the "populist" thing for quite some time now. She handed over day-to-day control of the research at Gombe a long time ago and started working the public and the politicians. I worked for her about 10 years ago for a while and she never spent more than a few days in any one location (aside from a couple of weeks at Gombe and a couple of weeks in England with her mother here and there) - - she constantly traveled the world trying to spread her messages of conservation, animal rights and public service. I don't know if she is still keeping up that strenuous schedule but I wouldn't doubt it. Lena and others: I agree that Steve was more effective at reaching the masses, and this was largely because of the thrill of watching him in dangerous situations. However, I'm not convinced of the relative benefits of his educational message. OK, so he convinced people in their living rooms around the world that crocodiles should not be eradicated. But does it matter a whole lot whether someone in Ohio believes that? Isn't it more important to make a local impact in that respect? I know, he did that as well (at least with respect to crocodiles), but IMO he could have done so without jumping all over them on t.v. just for the showmanship of it. In the beginning, didn't his show focus on actually being sent out to catch and relocate dangerous animals? Now that I can understand, because he's actually benefitting the animal in the end. But catching them just to show off for cameras reflects a certain lack of respect for the animal IMO. For me, it's a question of quality over quantity. He may have reached more people, but I don't think the message he carried had the anywhere near the level of respect for the natural world that other naturalists are actively trying to cultivate. Furthermore, adding a "do as I say, not as I do" caveat to his exploits did not, IMO, counteract the implicit message that tough guys mess with dangerous animals. If you've ever been to Yellowstone or somewhere like it, you saw that there was always one (or more) in a crowd who had to push the limits, getting foolishly close to the animals. This put the animal in a bad situation as well as the other observers. While people did this before Steve's show came out, I doubt it could be said that his actions did anything to discourage this type of behavior.

Craigslist, yes! They live 5 minutes from my house. Not brass, I believe it's resin which I'm ok with. I certainly would have paid a lot more from someplace like Home Goods I think it's pretty and I love the leaf detail. My house tends to be dark and adding large mirrors across from the windows helps move the light around. An old, chippy wood framed mirror in my kitchen eating area. An old pic of the dining room, but that mirror reflects the chandelier and the living room window behind me. That was found in the garage of our old house! This is the "Snow White" mirror in my daughter's room. Looks orange-y, but it's an aged gold. And the mirror that was in the living room before the new purchase. A gift from my mom :) I can't wait until we decide on a layout for our bathroom and I can shop for the one(s) that will go in there!! All I know is that they will be big.

The only paper I've every really been interested in getting is the Sunday edition. Occasionally I'll subscribe for a while and it goes the same way. They give a great introductory rate then raise the price again and again until it costs more than to buy it at the store. And often the delivery service gets terrible. Now let me be clear - I delivered papers for a while so I know what the job is. IT'S NOT EASY! You get the old bags that have to have the paper in a particular position, facing a particular direction on the particular spot or they'll call and complain that it's wet or not received. The one I put into 15 bags! Nope that wasn't wet, but I digress. Additionally I recently spoke with a carrier and now the carriers have to buy rubber bands and bags for the papers from at least the one company. That stinks. That said, I've had great service but often get bad service. Let's face it, carrying papers isn't something you want to do all your life. It's actually fun for a while but it gets old with the whiners trying to get free papers. But all that said, I enjoyed getting up about 4am on a Sunday, brew a pot of coffee, and look through the paper. I'd look at the headlines, read an article or two that interested me, checked a couple other sections and usually would look at the store flyers and coupons. Now the coupons are few and far between and the flyers are all available online. The paper is free online and I can get the current headlines, not something that's a day old. Most all the feature stories are in there and the big paper here doesn't have a TV log in it - but I always get that online too. The biggest paper here is nearly bankrupt for a lot of reasons. The subscription part is being ignored and they're losing subscribers which means MORE lost revenue since their advertising rates are based a lot on subscriptions. The secondary paper doesn't deliver to my area. I'm on the wrong side of the river for them apparently. I get my news from a variety of sources. I've always believed in doing that. I always shuddered when people only got their news from one source. Sad really. I like different perspectives. But today, the newspaper isn't for getting the "news", as stated repeatedly above, it's for the features, the stories, the entertainment. TV, radio and the internet let you know what's going on within minutes or seconds, papers make you wait sometimes DAYS! But it's the tv logs, the crossword puzzle, the comics, the arts & entertainment section and the like. Even the want ads in the paper are being replaced by other more productive means. Papers have caused many of their own problems. I can't see a lot of these papers lasting. Around here I'd expect the two papers to merge eventually. Actually they already have. What was four papers a few decades ago are down to two. They used to have morning and evening editions, now it's one, the overnight edition. Small town papers used to be fun. I used to subscribe to a couple different ones for various reasons but now they're not independent anymore, they're all part of a big chain that owns a dozen or more of the small town papers and they're carbon copies of each other. Again, you're as well off getting it online. Plus the post office can't deliver a paper in a reasonable time so I don't bother trying to subscribe to the out of town ones anymore. The cost is about the same as the "big town" papers. But I understand and didn't mind, when I would get it. I mourne the loss of local news. I'm saddened to see the destruction of the local papers. But businesses, like people, get greedy and shoot themselves in the foot too often. And what's just as sad is the dissolving of the local newscasts too. They're all dumping reporters, going with more canned stories and are a variation of the national stuff. There's just not much out there anymore for truly local NEWS. The saddest part of it all is this is what people want. Ugh.
