Outlets not working

Recently, my husband and I installed a new ceiling fan in the master bedroom. Everything went fine, except when we went to install a new wall switch that had a light dimmer and fan control in one unit. When we turned on the power and then turned on the unit, we got some arcing so we immediately cut the power. We figured it was because the switch had a 4-speed fan control and the fan is only a 3-speed. Anyway, we ended up putting the regular flip switch back on the wall and the fan and the light work great. The only problem now, is that ALL the wall outlets in the master bedroom don't work. Neither does the one in the master bathroom, the one in the guest bathroom, and one of the outlets in the study. The study outlet is on the other side of the master bedroom's closet wall. Any ideas what could have happened? We flipped the breakers that went to the rooms that weren't working with no solution. The wall switch has 3 black wires. We could tell which one was the ground wire but we couldn't identify the other two. Is it possible that the other two wires got switched, when we re-connected the original switch and this is causing the problem in the outlets? Also, none of the outlets are hot.
