I used them in my bedroom...placed them up and on the outside of the headboard. These are cool because they come on when you touch the lamp. They also are 3 way and get brighter as I touch them. I use them in the winter to help with my SAD...in the a.m., I step the light up at 5 min intervals and it makes an incredible difference in how I feel.

I like to use them for bedside lighting as they free up space from the nightstands. I've also mounted one over just the center of a bed sometime for reading light. And who cares if they are in or not. Use what you have and what YOU like :)

Yes, I love them, and have used them in libraries, bedrooms, dens, and home offices.

If yours are, shall we say, undistinguished, you can paint them, and/or mount them on narrow strips of wallpaper that you've bordered with molding, to give the whole business more effect.

For a guest room in a house that had a lot of cane furniture and Asian imports, I once tarted up a pair of very plain chipped brass plated ones with black paint, a touch of gilding wax here and there, parchment shades, and a backing panel of Asian newspapers pasted to the wall, with narrow faux bamboo molding around them.

It sounds a little kitschy, but it was really quite charming.

We have inexpensive ones in our BR. We have a sloped ceiling and non-matching, non-permanent bedside tables so we went with the wall lamps for simplicity and so that we can choose what we want later for furniture without having lamps that are too tall (or too short).

We got ours from Ballard. They were on mega clearance, and are nothing special, but fine.

I also remember years ago when Mary Gilliat was on TV and used them to wonder effect as she had bed hangings like a canopy and used the crook in the swing arm lamp to pull the bed hangings back.

We used swing arm in our library too.

We have them in our bedroom and love them. I'm such a klutz, I would knock down a table lamp.
