What Sofa To Put With These Chairs? PICS

I just bought these two chairs from someone on Craigslist for a house we recently purchased.

I'm trying to go with golds and silvers as the (fake) tile in the house has both hues and the tables I'm bringing from my current living room are glass with gold and accents of silver.

I'm going for more of a traditional look. These wouldn't be my EXACT choice, but they're close enough that they'll do and the price was sure right!

I don't want a bulky sofa, more along the type I've posted below. I'm interested in what color(s) you would think would go good with these chairs? I don't want to have the same over colors, want something to make the sofa stand out but I'm clueless to what color(s) would look good.

Also below is a pic of one of the two sconce I bought from a consignment store that are gold and silver.

I think the sofas that you pictured, are too busy for the chairs. I would go with a more simplier style of sofa, if it were me.

Nice choices, tinker. Did you ask about doing some other leg, or something to eliminate the wheels on the couch? I don't care for the look of that, either. Can't wait too see how this all comes together. I think doing the couch and two chairs will prove to be a great choice for you. As for the floor plan, as I mentioned on the other thread, I think in part it depends on whether you are putting a tv above the fireplace. I like the second and third layouts, guess it depends if you want to have that extra accent chair. You might also try the two chairs on one side, couch opposite them (I would likely put the couch on the left side of the fireplace, so you don't have the feeling of a wall as you come into the room on the right. One other choice with just the two chairs would be to put the couch on the left, one chair on the right with its back to the counter, a table on the corner, and the other chair at a right angle to that, facing the couch. I might open up the seating area a bit.

mlraff53: No offense taken. Hubby and I are thinking about hanging the mirror the other way. It was hung that way because that was how it was strung on the back when we got it from the antique mall. I measured it yesterday and there is a difference of 6 inches....so rewiring the back and hanging it the other way might work. I did scoot the barrister over so it is now centered...at one time it was, but when I clean I swing it out to get the cat toys and "dust bunnies". I will keep an eye on it when I move it back into place. I did move the family photos and will think about where they would look the best, grouped to gether. I did get another similiar frame...the curved glass...so will try to work with the 3 similiar frames. Snookums....You are right....the CD tower will go. The furniture is covered because the cats are not declawed and I don't want them "Happy pawing " on the upholstery when we are brushing them or petting them. They do that and I just don't want them to ruin the fabric. Also both cats shed and it is much easier to cover and shake/wash the covers. The blue chairs...they really are recliners and it is impossible to find fitted covers for wingback chairs that are recliners. If someone knows where to find them...let me know. I have looked. I will move the cat stuff into a basket and get rids of the box. They only play with a few things out of there. Rucnmom: Thanks for the kind words about the Samovar. I had it restored 3 years ago when I inherited it. Most people don't know what it is !!! I think I will keep the mirror when it is, nut hang it the otherway. I like having the reflection of the rest of the room. Any suggestions on where else I could showcase it? Please keep the suggestions coming.....I do enjoy reading them...going to look at the changes and doing it and thinking. You all are great!

Well on the spike thing...that candle stand is an antique and rather pricy, so I don't really want to start taking heavy tools to it LOL Gad you girls are aggressive when you want something! The drapes (KD STOP THAT...I WAS DROOLING!!!) are a beautiful silk and linen weave that I purchased in LA (fabric district) several years ago. I have 30 yards of 120" wide in a tone on tone stripe (about 2" wide stripe, but very very subtle). They're pretty much in the amber tone on that first page of KD's evil link. I actually have them in two tones, one has just the tinest hint of green, like old gold would, again on a tone on tone stripe. I was going to make simple headers for the kitchen from that one and then do the dining room with the straight gold so that it would be a nice flow of color and texture. I picked up a little fir of some sort at Fred Meyers last night (about 5' tall) which I'll throw in the hole until the holidays are over. I think it's a good idea to wait until the drapes are done. They'll be lined so they will have some visable and actual weight to them, and will normally be pushed to that side since the door is on the opposite end. Getting a 12' transom rod with no center support has been a big of a challenge so I just haven't started the drapes. (Or that's the excuse I'm using this week LOL)

Do I need to put something under the legs of chairs, tables and sofas

We put in wood floors two years ago, and put all sorts of things under the legs of chairs and tables, so I have some experience with this. We first went with the felt pads. Those were great because the furniture slides with ease with felt pads under them. The problem arose when the adhesive holding the pads to the bottom of the chairs started getting on the floor. It is a bear to scrub off the floor. We also have cats, and those felt pads were cat hair magnets, giving our kitchen chairs fuzzy feet. So we ditched those (although they are still on the heavy, not often moved furniture like the couch, loveseat and dining table). Next we bought plastic rounds kind of like what you pictured. They didn't last long because I felt they were too hard and would scratch the floor. Now we have rubber round things much like the ones you picture, and they are lovely. The furniture doesn't slide as easily, but the rubber is soft, nothing gets on the floor, and cat hair isn't as much of a problem. My suggestion to you is to remove those wooden things and replace them with rubber things. I may be a bit of a hypocrite, as I have one chair that has metal rounds like that on its feet. I don't have the heart to mess with that chair (it was rather expensive), so I have tacky plastic coaster type things under the feet of that chair. That is the worst of all choices, because the chair needs to be in contact with the ground to move it at all times to keep those dumb coasters in place. Good thing that chair is good looking enough to make up for its tacky coaster feet (and not often used).

The second couch feels too angular and modern, and the first is just way too frou-frou to create the elegant look I think you want.

I would look for something in velvet, in a really rich grey-blue. It would be wonderful with both the silver and the gold. Kind of along the lines of the drapery in the pix of the chairs, but deeper.

I think something like this Hepburn couch from Ethan Allen would work well, in a color similar to the Turner Ink fabric choice:

Interesting, I've stayed away from camelback sofas, Duncan Phyfe too, just not crazy about the style. I'll have to take a second look at them. Wish I could find a picture of similar chairs and what someone put with them.

Worse case scenario, if I can't find anything to go with these chairs and I find something else, I'll sell them. There's no doubt I can get my money back - whether I can find a deal similar to them, that's another story.

DonÂt worry about what someone else did. You would find those chairs put in with a very formal room, and then a pair of them painted glossy black with very modern or zebra fabric on them in a very modern room.

What kind of couch appeals to you? In the end, it is about what YOU like and want to have in your private space. Also, how is the piece going to be used? That may influence your selection of seating.

I'm not an expert on traditional furniture, so I'm not certain exactly what will work best for your chairs. But I must say that I love that second sofa! The shape is very elegant and modern and I love the nail head detailing.

What appeals to me, hmmmm...well, the tastes have actually changed over the years and what I'm going for at this time is a more traditional living room. There's something I like about having a living room, not that we ever use it that much, really. We have a den that we "live in" on a daily basis.

I also like the French look and can go with that, and I don't mind an eclectic look if I knew what would go with what without it looking like a mish-mash of stuff.

The link below has another sofa I saw on line that I thought would go well with the chairs, but again, I'm in the same color range again. Need to find other options when it comes to colors, I'm not too worried about finding the couch, it's the fabric that will go with the chairs that I'm more worried about.
