Wow, thanks for the responses. Today was the decision day for us. First stop, we went to the local fabricator. He is going to make me my duct cover for the hood. (42wx12dx24h) for about $80! Then we decided to do a 36x36 piece of stainless steel for behind the range. (around $40-$50), man I love the Amish. Next stop the appliance store. Ordered the 36" rangetop with the 24" high backguard with shelf! I figured if the rangetop ever was pulled out, what would be behind it? Do I want to spend $$$ on tiling behind it? Not really. So this way there is a piece of ss behind backguard The stainless sheet will go from the hood to below the top of the rangetop. Kellienoelle: I did look carefully at the showroom, and they tiled right up to the stainless and then just end it with a line of grout. It looks perfect. bacin0--what rangetop are you looking at? shappy-this is good, no, great to hear! will, I remember that shelf. My cabinets are quite a distance out from the range, I don't think it would look right. But I do recall it looked really nice in that kitchen. polie, my range is 36" wide the hood is 42" wide. The backguard is 24" high. Thank you Sandca. I'll definitely look. Firsthouse. Futuro only sells by phone or internet. They don't have showrooms. They claim 940 cfm and very quiet. But, their photos are so annoyingly deficient. Few show context or scale (with people, in a real kitchen, taken from eye level). I asked them over the phone to send me real pictures and they referred me to their email customer service. That didn't help. Anyone with a camera lives in Brooklyn? The hoods from the Murano collection seem to have only 1 grill underneath (12 x 12?). Other models have 2 or 3.

I think they are lovely. If you want to compare, Restoration Hardware has milk glass pendants that are quite nice and come in different shapes.

Echoing what the others have said, that glass shows all the splatters, is a PITA to keep looking clean. Also, as M said, mesh filters, which that glass one has, are a worse choice than baffle filters. I cannot tell what kind of filters the all-metal one has that you show. You want to find a hood with baffle filters. Mesh filters become quickly clogged with grease which blocks the exhaust power, unless you are cleaning the filters constantly. Baffle filters will also need to be cleaned, but not as frequently, and if you do not clean them, it won't block the exhaust. Check out Costco for occasional deals on hoods.
