Can I see pics of your stained hardwood floors (Minwax)?
Comments (10)househappy, the cedar beams you see in the photo are stained with Early American. As you can see, they blend with the flooring and the door trim (which is stained with SW Walnut Wainscott). Early American on oak flooring won't be as dark and a touch of orange will show thru. Your flooring guys will have several cans of left over stains and before they begin, will/should stain patches of the floor for you to see (at least 1ft square). They'll sand it off before starting after you select a color. We had enough stains around, so I played on a scrap piece of flooring before that day - but we still let them put down the various stains for me to see. Like gabeach stated, the paint store will be happy to do test samples also - I did this on the cedar before deciding. They'll do the already mixed for free, but if you want to see a speciality mix (like Walnut Wainscott) you'll have to buy a quart....See MoreCan a hardwood have tooo much hardwood?
Comments (33)Yeah one finished room. (Of course still full of dust) They finished our bedroom yesterday. Still have to enventually come back and do the closet, but for now have moved on to the great room. camlan..Their doing the same thing here. Running the wood with no seams from room to room. I hope ours eventually "glow" right now they just glow of dust, but it still is looking nice. judydel. I like to buy rugs at TJ Max HomeGoods. Patty Cakes.. Oh no. The stairs is what inspired us to do this hardwood job. We just finished painting the stairs yesterday. The carpet that was on the stairs was old, dirty and ugly. It had to come up. My kids are teenagers, so hopefully safety wont be an issue. We'll see if they become too loud, etc., we can always eventually add a runner to them. beth..Your floors, rugs and house are beautiful. Thanks for sharing the photos and experience. work.. Thanks for the advice. I'll remember this for the near future. Id love a sweeper I could run on the floor and not have to worry about damage....See MoreShould I put hardwoods in my upstairs hallway?
Comments (8)We did hardwood in our upstairs hall (with wood stairs) and I love it. It allows you to use different color carpet in each bedroom without it looking strange in the hallway, the way it can when the bedroom carpet meets a different hallway carpet. It also allows you to replace the carpet as it needs replacing without having to replace all the upstairs carpet. My neighbor has hardwood downstairs, carpeted stairs and hardwood in her upstairs hallway. She loves it also. Totally Confused...See MoreCan I float 3/8" engineered hardwood over solid hardwood?
Comments (1)Go for it. I would throw down some 3mm or 6mm cork underlay down (it floats just like the hardwood) and then float the hardwood. Use a high-quality joint glue on the hardwood and you should be fine. Besides...if it gives up the ghost in 10 years, would you be upset?...See Morekgsd
