Quick window decision-- help!
Comments (4)What pretty windows. I love their proportions and trim. I am glad you are not going with shutters as to me they read more "wall" than "windows." Would you consider a double curtain rod with sheers and drapes? I would hang only one on each window so that the treatments stack at the opposite side from the fireplace. You could pull the sheer to reduce light but still keep the view somewhat, and the drape to block light more totally. You could also do the bamboo blinds + drapes if you don't mind permanently blocking part of the top of the window with the blinds. However, the top portion of the window is where the most light enters the room, so I would not do the blinds if you need full sunlight for any part of the day. I believe I read here that it's the top 20% of the window that lets the most light in, but I may not be recalling correctly....See MoreMarble window sills -can they be painted? Quick reply needed

Comments (5)It could be my eyes, but in your inspiration pic, it appears the the seat trim goes out a bit beyond the neighboring cabinets. And the seat does extend beyond the bookcases on either side of the sketch that comes up at the top left in the bench example link above. How much does the trim extend beyond your bookcases? How deep is the seat overall? Could it be due to the fact that it needed to be made deeper to be a usable seat? It might be tough to sit on a seat that is the depth of many bookcases. It might be more of a 'perch' than a true seat if not deep enough. Is it possible that it might look a bit unfinished if it didn't extend a bit beyond? Do you plan to put a cushion and pillows on your bench that might hide the 'overage'?...See MoreQuick Design Dilemma: Windows/Exterior Materials - Proportions
Comments (19)Thanks for the very helpful feedback! I’ll post TWO separate responses below – one specific to the WINDOW issue - and then a second specific to the COLOR issue – accompanied a few other helpful images. Windows: Re TEMPERED GLASS mention by Patricia Colwell Consulting. Good point. We’ll check local codes on that front and also get an updated quote from window supplier. Re: WINDOW UNITS - comment by HALLETT & Co. that windows should be being ganged or mulled. I just want to clarify if you are saying that the three windows should be joined together to form a single window unit? If so, my husband prefers to avoid that approach given weight and resulting deeper header requirements (which will make the increased window height issue an even greater challenge...). Or are you saying that we should visually connect the three windows by using something other than the selected stone/stucco (or other) in between? Re: UPPER WINDOW vs LOWER MATERIAL - per HALLETT & Co. comment to move front material UP to the bottom of the (upper) windows. We did try that in original V1 image – but then lowered somewhat to improve proportions. I understand what you are saying about the traditional application of such (ie stone/stucco) materials – but in the V2 version, we did lower that material to avoid that awkward, narrow strip. Do you think the lower material need to be raised right up to the lower edge of upper windows – more similar to INSPIRATION image below ? Related to this topic - comparing the v1 and v2 images – I do agree with raee_gw zone 5b-6a Ohio who thought that additional space helped to create a more graceful transition. But I’d appreciate any/all feedback. Inspiration Image - HGTV Dreamhouse picture below (which inspired some of our design decisions) - and below that - our current house AS-IS :)...See Moresunshine_4_jt
