Comments (17)Amysrq- Are you sensitive to energy? Do you have a strange feeling when standing on the land? It really doesn't have anything to do with what happened or didn't happen there. Sometimes, there is negative energy left behind. Most people can't sense it, so for them it isn't a big deal what house they live in or where one gets built. My husband and I toured a home that we really liked. great location, good potential. But I felt strange inside it... Like someone was watching me. I walked through the house and had difficulty breathing, my heart was pounding. Since it was the first home we toured that I liked, I thought it was just my excitement. After leaving I ask my husband how he felt about it. he said he liked the house but felt strange and couldn't pinpoint it. After a little research, I found out the home was being sold by the family. The 74yo man died in the house last year. Now, before you all say anything... my father died at home with us by his side. After we had the house blessed (I am not religious but due to strange events, believe that it released my fathers spirit) I haven't felt his presence in the home. So, fast forward a few weeks. That house sold. I toured another home that I am sure some of you have read about my fiasco with that. The house too was being sold by the family. But there was such an incredible, comforting feeling in this home. Even with all the work is required, I immediately wanted it. After we lost the insane and frustrating bidding on it, I was mentioning to my husband what a great vibe it had. He then told me that was important because he didn't like the previous house I liked. he said that it felt as if someone was pressing down on his chest the entire time we were walking through it. So, don't think to much about what used to be on the land. If you are comforted by the land and it's surroundings, you'll be fine....See MoreWhat will appeal to women?
Comments (41)I second what Patser said - we got our Fixer Upper two years ago - every "redone" flipper house we walked into I cringed as it was so overpriced and cheaply done. So, we did what Patser said - good bones, structure, nice hardwood with lots of potential. And, better yet, I can pick everything I want - DIY - so we spend the money on better materials and cool tools vs. labor and then we know it's done properly (although it takes us years to do it). Instead of cheap vinyl windows - we splurged for Marvins as DIY (which were easy and quick), it was the same price as installed. Instead of cheaper cabinets, we splurged on what I wanted - Cherry & Glazing, and DIY (ok, cheated on hanging them and got some help, but that was the only time). We got tired of the cheap windows, badly redone hardwood or cheap carpeting where you can't see what is under it, crummy kitchen as people can't afford labor and good cabinets and nice granite (not uba tuba), metal doors (not solid wood). But, some women and some men will walk into our home and say yuck as they like modern, others will love it - you can't appeal to everyone so, I'd say stick with classic and not the cheapest off the shelf materials (after making 2-8 trips a week to Home Depots/Lowes we can tell very quickly now). I hate wrought iron too - I'd want wood and Baldwin ORB (which we did but very $$$) for knobs, etc. Oh, and I don't care about closets as long as there are a few - it's amazing how creative you can get when you need to be, especially DIY with an amazingly handy husband....See MoreHas anyone built the Mitchell Ginn Ellenton Place house plan
Comments (363)My favorite things we did putting a second access to the laundry/closet/master bath area without going into the master bedroom. I get migraines and the last thing I want is someone coming in and out of the bedroom to get to the closet. The only thing I would have done different would be to move the master bedroom and living room to the right and put the dining room in between. We barely use that dining room and when we have big family events we end us moving all furniture out of family room and using it. I definitely recommend the laundry room on both floors...See MoreAdding stairs in 1900 built house
Comments (46)We have stairs! Lots of finishing left to make them pretty, but now we have decent access to finish the attic space. And...I need your help on the downstairs reconfiguration. Space is a bit tighter than anticipated. We punched a hole in the kitchen wall, and it turns out that was original, as the flooring is continuous to the hall. Straight ahead is the bathroom door, to the right needs to be the new bedroom door opening. This bedroom wall is only 30" from inside corner to outside corner. We'll extend the wall across the stairwell (~37"), but that makes it a tough putt for fully opening the door. And here's the former bedroom door, destined to become a closet door. We have room for a 24" wide bedroom door. Obviously NOT ideal, but I measured some of our furniture and depth of the casework is all 18-21" so presumably stuff would still fit through the door. The original closet door is 24" wide, so if we shift it towards the corner we will miss all but a couple inches of stringer in the upper corner. Then there's the whole interfering swing deal with the bedroom and closet doors. Would it be too weird to in-swing the bedroom door to the left? Recommendations to solve this conundrum? Or improve on our 24" clashing door scenario?...See MoreRelated Professionals
