Should I be hearing a click - wall switch timer

My electrician installed an Intermatic Wall Switch Timer -ST01 series - as part of a 3-Way switch set up. I hope my terminology is correct. I mean that my lights can be turned on/off at either one of two switches. I've made one of them the timer switch.

When I use the non-timer switch to turn the lights on I hear a reasonably loud "click" coming from the other (timer) switch. It's the same sound it makes when I use the timer switch itself to turn on the lights.

I'd like to add that the electrician wanted to put the timer switch on the opposite switch because that's where the power first comes to the line. I guess he means that the wire from the basement stops there first, and then continues to the second switch. However, I wanted the timer on the other (second) wall.

Does this seem right? It's weird to hear it clicking on the other side of the room.Sorry for my non-technical explanation.
