Marvin Integrity Window Review
Comments (238)Why I will not buy Marvin Window Products and neither should you. In 2004 we renovated our kitchen, replacing three windows and one door with Marvin Windows. At the time we purchased Marvin because I felt they were high quality. Marvin’s website says, “We are committed to design that is as functional and intuitive as it is beautiful. Crafted with exceptional skill, our products deliver quality you can see, touch, and feel, the beauty that brings joy, and performance that stands the test of time.“ My view of the ‘test of time’ for windows that I put in my home is a long time, decades. Apparently, Marvin’s test is dramatically shorter. Less than 20 years after installation I noticed that the window had rotted all the way through the frame. I am not sure how many years it took to decay, but clearly it did not happen overnight. Their test of time failed quickly. I called Marvin and was told that the warranty is only 10 years. I understand how warranties work and asked for Marvin’s help repairing the window. They said they would not offer any help since they no longer make the model. I called dozens of companies and was told these Marvin windows were not repairable. I am left with one window out of six that failed out of warranty but clearly started failing years ago before the warranty had expired. I now need to replace all of my kitchen windows in order to have a consistent look. I thought that maybe this is a one-time issue and not very widespread. It turns out Marvin lost a class action lawsuit on this very issue. https://www.yourlawyer.com/construction-defects/marvin-windows-lawsuit/. Apparently, their product team feels they can continue to turn out products that do not stand the test of time. Marvin’s marketing department may tell you they are committed to a lot of things but it is clearly a lot of marketing and they do not stand behind the actual quality of their windows. So when you look to purchase windows for your home my strong recommendation is to look at anyone other than Mavin....See MorePella, Jeldwen or Marvin
Comments (21)Pella is one of the only two completely nationwide window companies, and sold extensively throughout Canada as well. Neither Jeld-Wen or Marvin falls in that category of a nationwide company. Every company has had its problems at one point or another. I installed a Marvin French Door set where the hinges did not operate properly 2 years ago and am still fighting with Marvin to take care of the problem and have not as of yet beenpaid by my cusomer for the job ($9679 I have not recieved. I have had Jeld Wen reps tell me that they will not take care of a window that was dented in thier shipping to me. Pella did have some problems with a series of windows they sold several years ago. When I reported the problem to My distributor 3 years after installaion they made hree service trips to try to remedy the situation, when they could not set it right, they replaced all the windows with the new series and my customer has not had a lick of trouble with them since. I try to steer my customers into Pella whenever I can...See MoreWindow Decision- Marvin's different lines make it confusing!
Comments (21)Britta, Progressive Lighting pretty much owns our area. I’ve been pretty happy with them and their selection but you really need to go to their place constantly to get good deals, if not you’ll pay too much. The main chandelier in our great room is a good example. This light is a lot bigger than it looks, it weighs over 100 lbs. list price -$6000. “Normal” Progressive price - $4000. We paid $1200 and a $100 crating fee (we had to return the crate). It was one of their main display lights and we happened to catch it as they rotated lights in the showroom. Same with this foyer chandelier and the following lights. We averaged about paying about 10% to 20% of list (80% to 90% off list). This was over a 8 to 10 month period. If there is a Progressive near you, start shopping now. LOL. I would NOT buy any LED specific fixtures. A lightening strike or electrical surge can kill them. Get standard fixtures and put LED lights in them. That way if you have an issue with the electonics used in the LED lights, you fix it by replacing the bulb, not the entire fixture....See MoreMarvin Essential or Elevate Windows?
Comments (58)@WoW Washington. The company i purchased theough were fully aware of the sub par work of fhe first conttsctor. They sent their ”top” guy out to finish the project and i think i was equally disappointed. I can still feel drafts througout the house. I sent videos of the candle smoke test and the explanation was that I had blinds covering half of fhe window so it created some sort of vacuum or movement of the air which is why the smoke feom a freshly blown out candle would blow away from the window. They couldnt explain why the air was ice cold. Caulk install was bad and as you can see the finishing trim they used didnt cover the area of where the previous trim was installed. This was the second set of trim by this company as they beought out painted trim that looked horrible. Also, they didn't fill any of the nail holes. Additionally, i think the pressure on the gun was too high as you can see indentations parallel to each nail hole. When they returned to the house to fill the nail holes, only after a complaint, they brought white nail filler and black paint/stain to go over it. This might be commom proactice but after all the other issues I started to question everything. Based on their previous work, i asked them to not move forward with it and to leave the house. i would like to have the leaks and trim addressed but I have no idea who to contact for the repair. ive spent $28k already and afraid if i contact another ”reputable” company, they'll charge me an arm and a leg. I know there are still great companies that complete great work, but I can’t financially afford trial and error method. Im located in southeast michigan and open to suggestions and referrals. pics showing examples of the ”finished job”...See Moreafsa
