I think a nice bookcase on that side in a color matching the mantle would be lovely. It would showcase that whole wall. Make it a little taller than the height of the mantle and put some greenery and vases on the top. I believe if you'd paint the white walls a color that would compliment the brick (pick out a medium color shade in the brick) then that whole fireplace angle would be softened.Good luck!

Sorry I thought I responded earlier but I guess the post didn't submit. Ajsmama: I actually purchased this sideboard/buffet off of CL. I had to drive about 45 minutes to get it and my husband attached it to the top of my Mazda Protege (which I am sure was not legal! LOL) but I loved it so much, it was priced great and I really wanted it for the TV. It could use a refinish but I will get to it when life slows down (LOL). My TV is 42 inches across and the buffet is a bang on 60 inches. Lowspark: I actually don't know much about it. I believe it to be Duncan Phyfe style but there are no markings on it. I believe it to be old but not antique. Do you know any info on your piece - would love to see it!

I think the blue trim on these would have to be the blue from the warm filagree border, which is a lighter blue than we are doing in the kitchen and the gathering room (to get the kitchen & gathering room color, we took a sample of blue bahia granite to sherwin williams and had them do an exact color match so that one is set-in-stone as far as the color.) When you walk into the foyer of the house, the tile mural will be right there. To your left is an arched opening and you will see both the bookcase side (curved display side) and the window seat right there so they need to go w/ the tile mural. Yes, we are doing the same wood floors throughout, both upstairs and downstairs (only place it isn't is the bathrooms). Random width downstairs, 3 inch boards up. Staircase in the foyer (which you'll also see from the door along w/ the tile mural and the conservatory) are white w/ oak. Trim will be white throughout, including on the window sills. We've got a LOT of blue in this house! (Kitchen, gathering room, sunroom, bedroom, master bath all have blue features). Soft yellows, greens and blues sounds very cheerful and inviting for your home!

I don't love the idea of white or tan. I'd rather see a pop of color. I saw something on Pinterest that I liked: A homeowner cut pieces of styrofoam to fit the "backs" of the openings in her bookshelf ... and covered them with fabric ... then just pushed them to the back of the openings. This means it'd be quick and easy to pull them out and replace them with different fabric, if she wanted to change the color. I'd also like to see some colorful pillows on that wide hearth. I love those mirrors! I'd hang them though, which would keep them from "competing" with whatever you've set underneath them. Yes to crown at the top. It'd add some bulk /importance to the whole thing.
