Finally...something concrete

As you all know Biomom has moved three and a half hours away with her new boyfriend she met in rehab. They are living in a travel trailer together with no electricity I have learned. Biomom is working again as a waitress. She "claims" she is clean and untill we start seeing old routines start up we are giving her the benefit of a doubt.

The girls birthday is today. They are five. We allowed mom to take them for the first time in almost three months yesterday. What we have done is written up a formal temporary custody agreement that was signed at the courthouse by a notary that listed expected behaviors if she wished to see the girls beofre the formal custody case.

Basically it read that In the childrens best interest I (she) agree that when I pick up the girls I will be on time, be alone, keep in constant contact with their father via phone calls and will not leave the county with them.

It also reads that if there is any doubts as to the status of her sobriety that she understands she will NOT be able to take them any where for their safety.

Both parents signed it and J gave her a copy.

The visit went pretty well. She only had them for a few hours. She is dirt broke so we gave her money to take the girls to a movie and to McDonalds for lunch. She looked like she had gained weight again which is a good sign. We haven't seen her since she initially left for rehab so we could really tell she had packed on a few. She always does when she's clean.

She has been calling a little more to speak to the girls...also a good thing. We have also re established contact with the girls grandmother (biomom's mom) who is now fully aware of the situation and is helping to keep an eye on things as far as Biomom's "status" goes. She will alert us to any suspicious behavior.

Biomom has also agreed to not fight for custody. She understands that she is in no position or mental condition to be primary caregiver of the girls. She says she just wants to be able to see them and will work with us in every way. She says they are happy and stable where they are at. ANOTHER good sign since she is clear headed enough to see this. If this is trully the case J will not need a lawyer and this will hurry right along from here.

I am happy to see things looking up but history has a tendancy to repeat itself so I refuse to get too excited. I really do hope this is the beginning of a real breakthrough. She still is on the "do not allow to pick up" list at school and we are still keeping a VERY close eye on her. For now the girls are just glad to have a little bit of contact with their mother. We'll see where this goes. Everyone cross your fingers.....
