Feeling Stuck

How do you deal with a situation where you're extremely compatible w/your partner, but he has a son (5 yrs. old) and is divorced from a 20 yr marriage and you're not really into kids? We get him 3 days a week and sometimes I feel like I'm going to have a breakdown. I don't have children and I like having my peace and quiet in the house. I live w/my partner and when his son is there we can't even hear the TV because he makes so much noise. But that's only a small part of the problem. There is a situation w/his ex-wife. She doesn't like that her ex-husband has moved on to a serious relationship with someone else and I believe she says negative things about me because they're pretty much repeated by the son when he's with us. Not anything blatant, but I believe she down plays my role in her ex-husband's life because the child makes comments that make me feel like an outsider. For example, yesterday I was talking about my partner's parents and his son said sarcastically "how does SHE know about grandma and grandpa?" as though I'm not supposed to know them. I believe his mother has a lot to do with his attitude. And he's extremely territorial about his father. I can't even hold my partner's hand when we're out and about because that child hangs all over him trying to keep us from touching. My partner defends his son saying he's only 5 and doesn't know what he's doing and that his mother is responsible for his behavior. Which means I basically don't get ANY support from my partner. I'm not really into kids, but I truly love my partner and as I said, we're extremely compatible. This is the only area where he and I are completely different. I just don't want to be around his son anymore. Is my only choice to leave? I hate to break up a relationship with the love of my life, but I've become very depressed lately because I feel like that's the only choice I have. I'm just frazzled and very blue about this. It's awful. I just DREAD when that kid comes over. And I'm tired of being in bliss for 4 days a week and miserable for 3. It's an emotional roller coaster. I've posted about this before, but it was so long ago. At this point I wonder if I should just throw in the towel. I'm afraid if I do, I won't find someone compatible with me like this again.
