unfinished closet and cabinet door

Hello, I have already checked some of the websites listed here for unfinished cabinet door but they are quite expensive. I have walls on the R and L and I only need the door to build and close a closet. Then I need door to create cabinet space under a seating bench. So, I would not like to spend tons. I do not need kitchen cabinet grade but just pine or maple will do the work. I will paint them white anyway. because I am building the structure around myself, I do not need custom door, different stand sizes might do just fine. Any idea where to buy unfinished doors? Rockler is too expensive as well.

Hi Milele; I,m new here, but if it's ok I'll give you some of my thoughts. What size door are you talking about? Seems like a used doors, if in fair shape, would do for your purpose. Sometimes construction guys might know where you could get some. You could call a few. The worst that could happen is they would tell you no. Call a few. Another idea would be to look in the Penny Saver or put in a want ad. You could also check out yard sales, and even if the people don't have what you want displayed, ask. If you want new, guys that do custom cabinets very seldom make their own doors or drawer fronts. You could ask them where they get their doors made and then go there. Sometimes the doormaker has doors laying around he will let go for cheap. I don't know if any of this will help, but I hope so. Good hunting.

The closet doors will be 60" high and 24 wide (each). For the bench I need 20 high (max) and any width (the bench will be 15 feet long...so I can build the dividers based on the door I have found). TX

I'm using Home Depot unfinished cabinets in a low budget laundry room redo. We just finished painting last night and they are getting hung tomorrow, so I will try to post pics next week when the counters go in. It was a little challenge getting the sizes to work, so if you don't need custom sizes, they can do the job. I also used these in my master bathroom- 2 separate 30 inch sink bases. They are standard kitchen depth, so a little deeper than most vanities, but they work for us! I painted them black and topped them with carrera marble remnants. I love the look and they have held up fine- 4 years now!

We painted our new IKEA doors with BM Advance in Satin. Our lowers are yellow and for our uppers we used Marscapone, which I think is a nice creamy white. The doors we were painting were birch with a white-wash type of finish. We brought one of the doors to our local paint store and they recommended the BM Fresh Start Primer. (They did not recommend the Advance Primer. Since then, I've seen several reviews about how terrible that primer is.) We scuffed, primed, and did two coats of paint, sanding lightly between each coat. We brushed everything except the end cover panels. I rolled those. In retrospect, I wish we had done three coats and maybe even four on the cream uppers. The coverage with the lighter color doesn't seem as good. I think the two biggest downsides to BM Advance are the long dry time (16 hours between coats) and the long cure time. They say up to 30 days but ours was more like 60-90. The upside is that, once they cure, they are really durable. We're coming up on two years since we painted them and have not babied them. I've been known to take a scrubby sponge to them when removing difficult splatters and the finish is still fine. The other problem, which you may not have, was the learning curve. I'd never used self leveling paint before. It took me a while to stop poking at it and let the paint do its job. Also it is super drippy so three thinner coats would have been smarter.

By the time you do all of those alterations to the cabinets, buying individual parts and pieces, you could have bought all new better quality. Most RTA is garbage cheepchinesecrapola. Barker, Scherrs, and Conestoga are not. The finishing process differences between home finishing with consumer grade products and factory finishing with commercial grade products is night and day. You are going to be much better off with all new, factory finished cabinets. For the whole kitchen. Whether you RTAA from a quality source or buy already assembled will depend on how big of a workshop you have to put it all together. Do you have a descent air compressor and brad nailer?

IMO a bad idea and the W/D will block the windows in what appears to be a nice front porch. Could you post a floor plan of the whole house IMO you do not have space for what you plan. Also you need to post pics of the actual space you are using.

I used to have a source for cabinet doors, nice work and fairly reasonable prices. Unfortunately the gentleman retired. I don't have another.

What you might want to try is Craig's List and post in the "gigs" section. Clearly describe what you want and what your budget is.

Definitely watch craigslist for used ones, but around here that would turn up in furniture or materials, not gigs. Just search "doors".

Um, "gigs" referred to hiring someone to make the doors. Plenty of out of work carpenters these days that might be looking for a little side job.
