Thanks so much for your reply! There are glass inserts in the door and I presently have my good dishes and 'pretty stuff' on display so will probably stay with that. Dishes are white with gold trim and the other stuff is mostly coloured glass. Sorry to sound stupid but what is 'mirror' paint? I really like the idea of mirrored background as I do not want it to appear 'dark' inside. I am going to go to the paint/paper store to see if I can come up with a paper that would suit. The first thing I would do is get the mirror hung. That can change the feel of whatever else is there, because it tends to multiply items and the overall effect. I would not use two lamps - as you said, the buffet is smaller, plus that feels like too traditional a look for your new piece. Each of the items you have is very nice, but all together they are totally unrelated in color, in style - but unfortunately too similar in height. I would find a different spot for the glass vase - I think it will be lost against the mirror. But if you do decide to keep it there, ,and want to add rocks, please do so carefully. I know of several people who have cracked glass vases (expensive or not) by dropping stones into the vase. You need to lay the vase almost on its side and slide the stones down the side, then gently turn it upright. Also, don't feel compelled to fill the entire width of the top with stuff. Sometimes each piece can be better appreciated if there is visual breathing room.

I realized you posted 2 weeks ago. Just saw this today. I wonder how it goes. If still nothing, I think it's the seeds. I tried NG impatiens for the first time this year and had no problem in germination. The variety is called "Florific". Actually I think NG impatiens seeds are easier than regular impatiens because they are bigger. I use tofu container, peat moss + perlite, and salad box as the "dome". Don't have heating mat. Just stack the salad box near hot air vent. No watering until the seeds sprouted. The temperature was around 70-72 in the day and went down to 65. So it's definitely on the cold side and I assume warmer setup they should come out faster. Anyway, at 2 weeks my seeds have sprouted, not all of them but majority of them. I don't think they require light because I put my seed trays at the bottom of the stack. In the picture they are 3-week old. Hope you got the seedlings up by now. Otherwise it's probably a little too late to start over.

Here is the problem - you are looking for a paint color based on 2 inch square swatches compared to huge expanses of the colors already in your home. If you have a sample of the countertop that you can take outside - that it the ideal answer. If not you will need to make do with a gerry rigged method using the counter top in place. Get a large white sheet. Gather samples of the colors that must stay ( a drawer front, a sample of flooring that closely matches if an actual sample isn't available, a sample of the granite. Gather as many colors as you can from the neutral and heavily muted colors at the paint store. The lighting in the paint store will confuse your brain - pick up everything even if it doesn't seem good in the store - you may be suprised by what works when you get them home. If possible, take all the colors outside and cover a table with the white sheet. Lay the samples of the colors that must stay on the sheet and place one color sample at a time next to the colors that have to stay. If it works in natural daylight it will work anywhere. If it is not possible to take a sample outside cut a hole in the sheet and let a small section of the counter show through the hole in an area near a window. If that is not possible get a good lamp with a 5000k lightbulb and place the lamp so it shines on the hole in your sheet. You can limit the amount of any sample of the things that must stay by doing cutouts on the sheet. Typically one or two colors will feel right. This is going to be the hue you want. More than likely when you purchase a sample and paint a large section of wall it will read more vivid than the color you picked from a tiny sample. More space- more color. But you will know that you are in the right ball park and can use tools like EasyRGB to discover similar colors that are slighly less saturated. I worked with Miller Paint when I first discovered Devine. They were amazing. Don't know how they are today, as it has been 20 ish years ago. If I were in their service area I would work with them again in a heartbeat. Hope this helps narrow your choices :-)
