Tomatillo Verde...very frustrated :(
Comments (11)An update: My plants are finally beginning to fruit! Some things have changed since I last posted... - It has been slightly cooler lately (mid-high 80's most days) - I started treating the plants like "weeds", stopped watering them, the only water they get now is from rain. - It seems like bees are starting to take more notice of them. Up until the last few days, I had never seen a single bee come up to them (I've sat and watched multiple times). But for some reason lately, there are bees pollinating them almost every time I look! Here's a pic of my biggest fruit so far: http://imgur.com/pvtcp I still have blossoms dropping, but now there are some fruiting at least! Here is a link that might be useful: Tomatillo fruit...See MoreVery frustrated with choosing paint - need advice
Comments (7)Traci, I feel your pain. If it makes you feel any better, I'm going through the EXACT same thing as you, only with looking for the perfect not-too-yellow-not-too-tan-definitely-not-too dark warm neutral for my living room and halls. I have too many small Benjamin Moore sample jars to count. I've rejected their original contents, cleaned them out, and had them refilled. I've taken in glass spice jars for samples. With Kelly Moore and Sherwin Williams, I've bought a total of 9 quarts. I'm going through a lot of foamcore board. I start with a small 4x4" square to see if it's got a chance. If I like it, I paint a 12" square, two coats. They get moved all over my living room. If a color is still looking good, I have to paint a small 4" square on the wall (sorry Paintguy). I have knock-down wall texture and it looks different on the wall than it does on the board, and not necessarily better. I have to know the truth. I've painted squares on 4 different walls. I got so that I didn't notice them anymore. Then I hated looking at them. So, I've painted over (with the original wall color) most of them, except the latest front runners. This is no fun. Oh, and online color visualizers are absolutely worthless other than to give you a sense of how colors relate to one another. But it doesn't give you a true idea of a color at all. I figure I've spent close to $200 in samples. In a fit of pique I threw Benjamin Moore Instinct and Shaker Beige together and got a steely gray. Not the color I was looking for. ;-) I would pay a color consultant $100 to put an end to my misery. With my luck, they'd suggest a peach/pink theme....See MoreVERY frustrated with choosing paint - need advice
Comments (18)rhome410 - yes, it amazes me that I can take anything to a paint store and they can supposedly match it! I've never done it before so don't know how accurate the results are, but we'll see! kpaquette - glad your experience with creating colors was good! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't regret it! Kat - well, I'm trying for a medium slightly smokey gray-blue since I normally am not a fan of blue walls. I'm trying to coordinate with a stupid rug that I plan to use in the living room, so not even sure I'll end up with a color I'll like! I'm wondering now if I can manage to get enough of a piece of the rug to take and have them match at the paint store - it would be really funny to lug an 8 x 10 rug into the store - haha! Anyway, there's no way I'd ever be able to replicate the color I've concocted, so I'm glad they can! I think I started with SW Cityscape as a base (it's a dark gray-blue), then added some Meditative and Sleepy Blue and I think a bit of Passive. Now that I look at the names all together it's hilarious - the room should put us right to sleep!! Oh, thanks, I am finally feeling much better - Sat I felt about 50% better - just enough to deal with paint, and yesterday I was almost back to normal. That is so true - I've been thinking that it's surprising that we aren't sick all the time with all the dust and fumes that go along with remodeling! mairin - I love that BM Adagio!!! The only problem is that I think it might be too close to the paint in the dining room/kitchen - darn!! That's been the biggest issue since I really like the paint in there and it's a light gray. So I've tried to find something that's more a med color and that's much more blue so that it doesn't look the same at first glance. I'm beginning to think it's impossible because I don't like pastel blues or really bright blues in living rooms. Honestly, if it weren't for my husband, I'd use the same paint color that I like in all 3 rooms! :) Here's a photo of the paint in the kitchen where you can see the very edge of the dining room at the left (which is right by the living room) - do you think this color (it's SW Argos in the kitchen and a combination of Argos and Passive in the dining room) and Adagio look too much alike? dawn8b - I will most definitely be using a color consultant if I ever need to do any painting of this magnitude again :) tudorlover - I wish I could just paint the house in one or two colors I love! My husband insists that we need more colors, so I'm trying to come up with a different one for practically every room. And while I love gray, he doesn't (or thinks he won't until he sees it!), so I'm trying to disguise the fact that I'm looking for paints with gray tones :) As long as it doesn't have the word "gray" in it I'm OK - haha!...See MoreAny ideas for a 1 inch back splash under very low kitchen window?
Comments (17)Thanks everyone for all the great ideas. My granite guy and general contractor were great today!!! Both of them are so nice and worked together very well. The granite guy is the owner of the granite store and he comes out to do all the measurements. I am very lucky because I have heard horror stories about contractors being difficult! We decided to take the whole window frame off so that we can have a 4 inch backsplash. The fabricator is going to also create a granite sill so there will be a little shelf just below the window. I think he said the sill will round out about 1 1/4 inch on each side to give it a nice finished look. He really seems like he knew what he was talking about. At first my contractor said he would just cut off the bottom section of the window frame, but the granite guy said that he would prefer to have it all off to avoid any space issues when installing. My contractor said, no problem. He took the side pieces and bottom pieces off and will retrim it after the granite is installed! Granite will be installed Thursday morning at 8:00 am-- so excited tosee how it looks!!! :) Now I'm thinking of painting the trim to match the color of the new cabinets. The trim is really a stock builders white color. Looks OK next to the Coconut color cabinets (which are an off white). I went to the paint store today and they matched up the cabinet color almost exactly- Benjamin Moore Cream Cloak. There is the window trim and then door trim that leads from kitchen, near refrigerator wall. The door trim is between cabinets near stove and pantry cabinet. What do people think. Leave the stock white paint as contrast or paint trim to match the cabinets??? The kitchen got a first coat of BM Capilano Bridge today- 2nd coat will be tomorrow. I think it is going to look good once the granite is laid- should pull out the caramel coloring within the granite....See Morehomeimprovementdiva
