Warm versus cool decor - your experience?
Comments (27)My LR & foyer were painted in sage & soft blue that were wonderful in summer but made the house feel dismal & chilly in winter. Because we spend more time in cold, often gray weather here, I changed the colors to warm autumnals. While those colors are a little stifling in August (remedy = bring in cooling cobalt blue accessories) , they're great the rest of the year. I haven't had winter downers since painting my LR orange. It's so cheery & welcoming. It also helped to put in larger windows. The abundant winter light makes the new room colors glow. We kind of miss our summery house, but to have a home that makes fall, winter, & early spring enjoyable is worth it. My #1 DS is mildly autistic and has hypersensitivities, primarily smell & touch. But evidently color affects him strongly too. When we moved to the northeast, I was worried about his adjustment (disastrous --another story). I gave him the bedroom with cross lighting, and let him pick out a room color, hoping to mitigate any adolescent depressions. He asked for bright yellow walls. I made a nice room for him: happy face yellow walls, a sophisticated oriental rug with navy & deep red, cherry furniture & off-white matelasse bedding. It was colorful and upbeat without being childish. Well, he hardly was ever in that room. "It's too 'sharp', " he said & moved into our bland basement: light brown "pecan" paneling and oatmeal Berber carpet, blah muddy colored furniture, fluorescent light (it's consistent!). And that's the way he likes it. It's soothing to him. I have since repainted his bedroom a soft gray blue, and he's been using the room a bit, now that it's no longer "sharp"....See MoreIkea Ringhult vs Voxtorp- small, warm minimalist kitchen
Comments (8)Ive seen them all. The voxtorp is very matte and paperwhite. You also have the matte walnut and the glossy beige/ivory. No hardware of course because of the integrated handle. I think this style looks best if you keep the lines the I reheated handle creates aligned throughout most of the design. If you need many different sized cabinets with both doors and drawers, I would personally not go for this front. The Veddinge has a low sheen and is a hint warmer- very classic and standard looking- you can play it up with hardware. Ringhult is like veddinge, plain and smooth only in high gloss. IMO choice of hardware is more limited with a high gloss front due to the style. It will reflect light beautifully (I had a Ringhult kitchen 15 years ago) but does it suit the rest of your design and age of the house? High gloss can work well in older buildings (my apartment was from 1929) but I think it takes a little more thought....See Moreminimal vs displaying collections
Comments (28)Beatles are probably better if they stay within 75% of the chair arrangement's width, so may be OK. Can't always tell from photos at an angle. I don't like the item hung below the trim and pieces up top though. Try the little picture that is just above the rail on the left moved above the long one and then mount the two with white mats side by side above the larger white matted one which you lower so the bottom frame is even with the bottom frame of the long one....See MoreMinimal Kitchen Refresh: kept my natural wood cabinets
Comments (36)Would still like to improve lighting, but options are very limited due to timberframe ceiling and inability to rewire anything. Wondering if adding more track-heads would help. All track heads are PAR30 gimbals with 50w equiv. LED bulbs. Not sure if anyone actually answered the question but the short answer is yes, what I would do is is move to a low voltage track heads with different beam spreads to get the light where you want it, and the smaller fixture will allow for more heads without looking cramped. You can also extend the track on either and with a joiner and a 2ft section of track , even make a corner to wrap it around a bit. You can also get extensions on the fixtures to drop them a bit lower to help get below the beam with the light in some places. I would also consider putting track where your pendants are now, you can actually hang pendants off track with adapters, but for now you could move to a par style bulb that forces the light down....See Moreteacats
