Gray sofa with navy velvet chair-will this work?

I just ordered a warm gray sofa and a flax/linen color settee. I need to decide the fabric for a large wingback chair and love the idea of navy velvet. My rug has some very dark navy in it and we will tie all 3 pieces together with rust/salmon color accent pillows and throws. I'm going to paint my tv stand navy too (BM hale Navy). I think the navy works well with all the elements of the room-just not sure about the gray sofa and navy chair.

Hi!

I think it would depend on how much blue is in your gray. I have a gray office (there is a decent amount of blue in my gray), and I had office chairs in the room that were navy/med blue. I didn't like the combo, I just felt that they fought each other. I have since replaced the chairs. Maybe my walls are "too blue" and my chairs are not dark enough to create any contrast. I think that is what was missing in my mix. I'm sure that ugly desk didn't help either LOL! It has since been replaced!

When I think of gray and navy, I think of a classic menswear combo of gray flannel pants paired with a navy wool blazer! So...yes, it will definitely work!

Graywings, I thought about IKEA, too. The problem is, what she would likely want is an Ektorp. I have an Ektorp. The arms are massive. Not so bad on the sofa, but ridiculous on the chair (because they are the same arms . . .do not work on the chair, which I also have). Anyway, even with the sofa, the arms are going to look really out of scale with EA, in my opinion. And, re: look around for reupholstering costs. When I finally get around to doing it for my chair, the lady I bought it from will do it for $185. Most other places would charge a min. of $300, more likely $500. I've seen her work and it's great.

We have to start renoing the upstairs by next summer so we will eventually be using that door. Also the nearest outlet is between the patterned chair and the sofa which is quite far from the tv as it is. We sat in there this afternoon and watched a movie with the kids. It was fine. The person in the patterned chair would either have to turn a little or turn the chair and they are light enough to not make it an issue. I'm hoping to find a small tv stand that is pretty close to the ground. I think it will be fine in the corner. Like k9arlene said, casters will make it easy to move it if I need to. I can't flip the furniture around because I have issues (phobias) regarding beam stability and even though we levelled the floor quite a bit, it still dips slightly toward the doors. It freaks me out even though logically I know it's fine. There's no way I'd be able to sit on the sofa with it so close to where I imagine the house will collapse from. The more furniture I put in, the more bare the walls look. I can't wait to start shopping for art! I want to thank everyone again for the input. It's been a really big help.

Your room is really lovely. I like everything in it. It just needs a bit of warmth. I would go with leather in very warm orange tones. If you don't want leather, I'd look for something with orange or green or yellow (deep cream works well instead of yellow if that's too much for you) in the fabric. I love a grey room with a bit of warm colour. Here are some examples. But, if you prefer to play it safe, the leather is your best bet. It adds that warmth and colour without being too forward. Altho you can find patterned or coloured fabric chairs in more subtle shades than some of those pictured above. Good luck and post a follow up, please.

What a print for the wingback with navy, gray and the rust/salmon colors of your pillows which I presume are also in the rug. .

Love BM Hale Navy (looks fab on walls) and yes it will work. Navy and gray are a classic go together. I do wonder about the velvet though!???

The couch looks very taupe grey, so the navy should be great with that.

IMO, tho, I would NOT paint the tv stand navy. I think you will find it will take away from the chair. What about a really dark grey?

What color are your walls?

Patty, I haven't been able to find anything. The chair will be in front of a stenciled wall, so between the rug, stencil, and pillows, I think there will be enough pattern. I'm not against the idea, just haven't found anything.

les, I wondering about that since the chair and tv stand will be right next to each other. The walls will be BM white dove. One wall will be stenciled with BM river reflections. At least that's the plan right now. I'm so indecisive about this room; I'm sure you guys can't wait until this room is done :)

I'll definately wait until everything is in there before I pain the tv console. I've linked an old thread with pics. the chair will go in the corner by the window.

I think navy & blue is a great combination, and would look really nice especially with the blue in your area rug.
