gog finally done

grouted in blue not sure i like it. funny how it looks so different before its grouted. started on a birdbath ive had hanging around...barb{{!gwi}}{{!gwi}}

I am assuming you grouted your triptych in blue grout? I think it looks really great. Beautiful colors. I have lots of koi ideas to do when I finally get to start.

The bird baths look to be very colorful it will be very nice wheb its done.

Great job! Did you use a pattern for the window? It's beautiful and the blue grout looks great to me!

Can't wait to see more of the birdbath. Lovely colors!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I appreciate all the great comments! It's also good to hear from the true experts that I didn't break every rule in the "glass mosaic rule book". Reading this forum and looking at all the pics just reaffirms to me that there are so many things I don't know about the whole glass thing. squirrellycanadian: The back of mine looks hideous too but I don't plan to look at the back so I'm ok with it...lol....I don't cry over what I can't see...lol linlee/ calamity: I freehanded this and honestly didn't try to make it look like it was blowing in the wind but now that you mentioned it I can see it now....lol I had been toying with the raised leaf vine idea for awhile and decided to try it on the door. I couldn't beleive how simple it was.... The putty I used is called Wood Plastic (actual name on the can) and you can find it at Home Depot in the wood fillers. It's $5.?? something a can which is a little more expensive than a plain wood filler BUT I chose this one because it is waterproof and can be used outdoors. I used approx. 3/4 of the can for the entire vine. It's like a putty and I just formed and shaped the vine with my fingers all over the door and then went in and made the leaves. I just put a glob of wood plastic on the vine and then took real leaves from my yard and gently pressed each one in to the wood putty to get the impression. Then I used the end of my knife and cut away the excess putty and some slits in the ends of the leaves for detail. It was set up hard enough to sand and paint by the next day. The paint is what really makes the vine pop. The paint is a green exterior paint from Home Depot. Once that was dry I sponged on/ragged off an acrylic metalic bronze (craft paint from Walmart I already had). I had never tried the process before but found it to be SO easy. I remember this window...I loved the funkiness of it. So much like Frank Lloyd Wright but with a funky twist. I actually checked out some books on him and found I really like his style. He was quite before his time..Im glad this got brought back up cause I just love it!!!! Ive clipped it for ideas in the future!!!

What a tease! Although, I must say, for you, this must be such a relief. I only have my cabinets, faucet, sink, fridge, range, oven, floor selected and I'm over the moon. I still have counters, sink, tile, DW, paint, and....to go. Whew...what a job!!! Really looking forward to the see your vision all come together. You really are in the home stretch...patience is the key. Good luck!!!

Thanks so much everyone! We learned so much from this forum -- I had never actually heard of soapstone before coming onto this board and quickly was convinced. We did use Buck's and it was a perfect experience with them. Lisa_a -- YES -- we used SW Restrained Gold in our dining room. We actually meant to use Mannered Gold but the painters picked up the wrong shade. No big deal, though, Andi K: it is a Buck's Franklin edge on our counters. I think we asked them to go light on the Franklin edge, but I absolutely love the edging. It just feels natural. Our cabs are Kraftmaid natural cherry. I know some people have had issues with Kraftmaid, but a year later and we've had absolutely no problems. And Aliris -- we were definitely not your inspiration :) I just saw someone's photos the other day who had a very similar backsplash, but it wasn't me. I wish I had seen their bs last year when I first started out looking -- would have saved me dozens of trips to tile stores. I think their tiles were random but all the same size, whereas ours have some thin and thick. I really wanted marble for the bs and it was very tricky to find one that wasn't too cool. The danby marble has a lot of caramel mixed in with the gray. Although I'm thrilled to be done with the kitchen (finally), it's a little sad not to have the project to work on. This was a DIY project (save a few hired out areas like counters, floor installation and drywall). Oh well -- tons to do in the house. On to bathrooms and laundry room reconstruction!

Love your window! The colors are so vibrant... I can just picture those fish exploring in the grasses. Nice! What a fun birdbath! I'm trying to see your leaves clearly... like them... want to do something with leaves. Did you put together the little flowers? If so... where are you finding the little glass pieces? I have trouble finding anything but big ones in the stores.

OH BARB, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the gog and I think the blue grout was PERFECTION!!!!! it's fabulous

And that design on the birdbath is very unique and colorful can't wait to see more!!!!

You're window is really nice. I love the different fish. I like everything about it, even the grout. You've just gotten used to seeing it ungrouted while you where working on it. It does look more "finished" when it's grouted doesn't it? Seems to bring everything together.
Your birdbath looks great too! I like the different sections of pattern and color. I'm anxious to see that finished.

Things tend to look different in pictures than they do in person. BUT, if that's the case, that GOG must just be stunning!!! I think the blue grout is beautiful! I mean, what other color would you have used? That birdbath is great, too. (I think I need to invest in more adjectives) Anyway, I never would have thought to seperate the sections! I like that, and the birds will too! So what's up with those flowers? I saw something kinf-of-but-not-really simial in Oriental Trading. Give it up; where did you get them? (BTW Great job!!)

Great job on both!! I love the grout on the window. Gives it a real underwater feel!

flowers are just small and regular glass globs. i get them at the dollar tree, linens and things, michaels and ebay.i did use a stained glass pattern for the window and scrap glass....barb

I think they are both great...I really love how you are doing all diffirent things to your birdbath..it will be a lot of fun when you get done.I too would'nt have thought of that..really cool!Great job on both.Annie

I think the blue grout is fine, doesn't distract the eye from the great colors you used.
Have you got Nancy's address from the bowl trade? Jane is wanting to touch base with her.
