I've found that if you read these boards too much, you'll be too scared to do anything. What matters most is the install crew that will handle *your* job, not the one that handled someone elses in a different part of the country. The more information that you can get about those people and the work they've done, the better off you'll be. I downloaded all of the installation guides from pella.com and read them carefully, plus looked over the sample windows many times at the showroom to know what to expect. When the crew came to do the work, I kept an eye on what they were doing to make sure they didn't skip any steps and asked questions as they were working if I was confused about something. Truth is, the guys wanted to do a good job and keep the work assignments from Pella coming their way, so it wasn't a big deal. In my area, there are only two crews who install for the Pella store and lots of construction and renovation, so I'm sure they like having that Pella contract....See MoreMilgard Aluminium Casement Windows?
Comments (2)I would definitely see one in person. Most manufacturers have what is called a "dealer locator". I would contact one and let them know what you want to see to make sure you are not wasting your time going there. Comments (8)He claims that he has Aluminum windows himself. He did not mention the brand and he also said he has the thermal break within the frames. During the winter he if he does not open his blinds the frames will start sweating and sometimes the glass will have condensation. I guess due to it being cold outside and warm on the inside of the house. According to his window and door supplier they mentioned to him that if using the Milgard Aluminum Series Windows and Doors it is preferred to not fully encapsulate the house otherwise they will sweat. If i choose to go with this option anyway they will make me sign a waiver stating that I understood this and they are not liable for any damages this situation may cause....See MoreAluminum narrow frame windows - Milgard vs. Fleetwood vs. others
Comments (6)We're in OC and went with Milgard anodized aluminum for our remodel. Not quite two years in, we discovered a big crack in the crank base. Waiting to find out if Milgard will step up and replace. One of the reasons we went with Milgard was their lifetime warranty. Sure hope they don't try to wiggle out of it! p.s. otherwise these windows have been fine!...See MoreEast Bay 10
