Starmark & Marvin Ultimate Combo install?
Comments (5)Just a quick follow up to keep my thread going... Well, you guys were right about Dave @ StrongWindows. We spent about 2 hours going through my different options and discussion about the Okna 800 vs the Starmark 900 casement windows. If anyone is in the Chicago-land area and shopping for window replacements, please do yourself a favor in contact Dave. I've since had a Marvin rep and it's night and day difference between the two. Dave took his time and offered suggestions. He's also been in the business for 30+ years and has a wealth of knowledge that he shares throughout the process. It was a little mind blowing when Dave looked at the windows and pointed out that there is no weather stripping on any of my casements and how none a even close to being sealed properly. I had a feeling that my windows were in bad shape during this brutal winter in Chicago......See MoreMarvin Ultimate Clad vs. Marvin Infinity
Comments (4)The quotes are for a full replacement on my windows. I guess what sticks in my mind is the clad still has wood and has the potential for rot down the road. As for the Infinity it does not seem there is anything to rot on these windows although I am not sure which finish will holdup better in the long run. Another positive for the Infinity is the outside can be painted if necessary down the road not sure that is true the clad. So not sure what is best longevity. Both appear to be solid windows. I am more impressed with the clad dealer who has communicated installation procedures and what happens to minimize damage to the area surrounding the windows on the interior which will leave paint and wallpaper in tact when the job is done....See MoreChoices, choices: Loewen, Marvin, Screens and Cladding
Comments (2)Looks like you and your GC have a couple of items to work out. While the aluminum clad window is in no way shape or form a bullet proof material, it is considerable more shielded and less prone to deteriorate as compared to bare wood. Wood windows require considerably more maintenance and upkeep. No comparison. A properly clad window will live much longer is only maintained slightly. If you need wood to the interior, have you considered a fiberglass window? Same construction look to the exterior, available with wood on the inside, and usually a bit cheaper. I would stay with the factory version of the roll away screen and I think your reasoning on the push out casements is completely correct....See MoreMarvin Ultimate or Sierra Pacific Aspen Aluminum Clad Casement Windows
Comments (11)what did you end up going with? I live in MN. And we are building in Eagle, Colorado. We are just now having to decide on windows and SP Aspen 2.0 are the architect and builders top choice. Interestingly, we have Marvins in our Minnesota home that was built 25 years ago and we've had to replace them all (wood double hung and casements). They were the highest end marvin available when we built. The sashes rotted. We did an addition 12 years ago, used the "new improved" clad exteriors in the casements and.... yep... still have rot issues after only 12 years. Suffice it to say, I'm starting to think nothing lasts more than 20 years, so why pay extra? Any others with this experience? (We, too, love the SP fit and finish and I think we'll be going with them -- though we also bid the Anderson 500 series and they came in slightly less than the SP's)...See MoreWindows on Washington Ltd
