Which color should I paint our front door? (pics)

We recently replaced our front door and are at the stage where we need to paint it. It is white (fiberglass) as of now with ORB hardware. Should we paint it white or go with a different color? DH suggested a navy blue and I really like BM Hale Navy, but I also like how the white kind of pops out.

What do you all think?

I'm liking the white too. I think navy will be too dark and make the door look like a black hole since it's shaded by the eaves.

I would consider something in either a shade of blue that you could distinctly tell is blue (pianolady007 has a really good point) from the street. Or another color but definitely a 'color'. I don't care for th ewhite because it looks to 'choppy' w/ the dark trim, medium tone house and white window casings.

Any chance you can beef up the door surround trim to really make the door a focal point? right now it seems to hold the sme importance as the windows and I always think that your door should be the primary focal point.

I would do the shutters in the same color as the flooring on the porch, to create a nice visual connection and flow. As for the door, I would think something in a really rich, deep golden yellow would be stunning, and would make the door really stand out to visitors. Something along the lines of SW6677 Goldenrod.

Tony, nothing matches FPoE That paint is spectacular . and no, no chip brush will do it for this paint. It's not a beginner paint. (meaning, painting a door with it your first time is prob not the best idea to brush) The Hollandlac Brilliant is oil base and has the best pigments of any paint. They are also the only company to guarantee their white will not yellow. The have a hybrid line called Eco. Goes on like oil, cleans up w/water. I've used that a few times and the finish is equally beautiful. Jane, if you are buying a mahogany door, then just do a natural spar varnish/UV protectant finish. you must get the UV varnish or oil. and yes, it will need to be done yearly if it gets full sun. Door companies will not honor warranties on wood doors unless there is a certain measure of overhead protection.

I would want the sides and back of the house, the same color as the front. I agree, pick a color from the brick. Garage door will look good painted same color as the house, so it doesnt jump out at you the way the white does. Nice house. Love your fencing.

Like the pergola over the garage door idea. If built to be sturdy enough to walk on it, then it could serve as a fire escape route should the need ever arise -- certainly hope it never does. You might also consider painting your step rails and side supports the same color as your siding unless you're planning to have a wood finish door and/or a rustic porch and post addition over the entry at a later date, in which case you'd want those additions to have the same wood finish. Very high gloss black, very sleek and modern!

I was hesitant with my door, and thought it would be too dark, and WOW I should have done it a long time ago.

Now I'm going to do 2 inside doors with the black. You won't be disappointed. Email me pics when you decide on the color. curlydella@yahoo.com

Another vote for the fresh white -- but do paint the outside trim edge in white too! A simple fix that will make the doorway appear more visually cohesive ....

Perhaps switch the large flower pots on the wall to a deep blue color -- and then add some of your wonderful flowers.

Lucky you, many colors look good. Your garden is so pretty, something colorful on the door would tie it in to the yard & draw the eye toward the door:

Plum

Blue

Magenta

Bright olive green

Yellow

Black

I think it would look great if you painted the door black, and the mail box black Paint the trim around the windows and door white.

I vote for a glowing, goldenrod yellow. Something like Farrow & Ball's Citron, or B. Moore's Dorset Gold.
