the autocad rendition above is taken from my preliminary drawings that I had made to give to the designer. I am not an expert. A long story, but the original designer was a guy my first builder recommended but turned out to be a costly mistake. He was in the middle of a divorce, strung out on anti-depressants, and did not complete the project. He also was not a CAD user. What a mistake. Needless to say, I deep-sixed this contractor and unfortunately learned an expensive lesson. I then started the project with another designer who finalized my plans similar to the last autocad design, but he used a different program, chief architect. I don't have that program, so I only posted changing the windows from my old autocad program. That is why the proportions and things don't look right. I do have a PDF file of the entire plans but I dont know how to convert them to either post, or email. I have thoroughly enjoyed all the insights. thanks again.

I have a Milguard vinyl window in my DR and it measures 72" wide with 11" side panels, a 41" center panel and 16" sil. These aren't the best pictures but you should get the idea. What concerns me in your measurements the most is the smaller center panel. I don't mind so much the narrower side windows because I have the big center window which I look out of. Is yours narrower because you need a deeper seat? The deeper you go, the narrower the center panel will be to maintain the angles of the bay. In your situation I would draw it out on graph paper, but to me that doesn't sound like that much room for a seat. Our window is flush with the walls but you could always build it out into the room a bit to get the seat depth. We did consider some type of roman shades for our bay window. I know it can be done but you need to be careful of the measurements as they would be outside mount and you need to make sure the shade headers meet at the correct angles, take into account any cranks, etc. Also, keep in mind because they will be mounted inside the bay window, it will significantly reduce your window view as well since even when open, they will obstruct the view at the top. The only shades I'd consider putting inside would be the mini cellular shades which stack up to about 1". But your window will be taller than mine is since you mentioned a seat so perhaps that is not so much of a concern for you as it was in my situation. Something to think about though, as well as how it will blend with other windows in the vicinity. In my situation I had an adjacent window in the LR and I didn't want such varying heights for the WTs since they were in view of each other. The drapes gave the rooms a more cohesive look as a whole.

That one is a beaut Todd, lol... @svayda : that is a good reason to look at the entire scope of the quote as well. Sure an excellent window may not be worth an exorbitant premium in theory, if the baseline quote is just enough to cover beer money for that installer and an installation like that which Todd pictured is in the offing, the higher price could be worth every penny. Make sure that installation details, product options, and company reputation and history are all apples to apples (at least within reason) when comparing price.

you just made a list of the lowest end windows; american craftsman, viwinco, reliabilt!!!! they are typical building supply windows and not only look cheap, they are made cheap. ignore consumer reports. they only issue ratings on windows sold in hardware stores and building supply stores. the higher end, well designed vinyl offerings are made very well/ strong, extremely air tight, and they look nice. these high end windows arent sold in stores but are sold through select dealers which greatly increase the chance of a solid install.. some solid windows are - Okna Windows, Soft Lite, Sunrise, or Kensington. i would google search. example- sunrise window dealer MS .
