What just happened?

Today neither BF nor I had to work. We ran errands on the other side of the hill from where we live (we live kind of remote) and came home for the day. BF thought that he would be on that side of the hill because his DD(19)and her boyfriend needed him to help with an auto repair, but DD said that her BF would probably flake, so it probably wouldn't happen - and that's why we decided to do our errands. About 2 pm BF gets a call from DD and the kids want to do the repair (this car is stored at BF's mom's house). I know that he was p/oed because he was ready to do his own thing here (and he should have told her so), but he went back out over the hill to help. Turns out the kids had no tools nor did they even have a plan as to what they wanted to accomplish. This car has been stored for years and was given to DD by BF because she wanted to restore it. Since they had no plan, he told them to go home and forget it. I guess he put the battery on a charger because he then called me at home to ask me if I would unplug the thing when I was over there tomorrow. I said I would but could he have his mom remind me when I stopped by because I am usually rushed when I stop in there. I was terrible busy and distracted when he called, which is why I figured that I would forget. He told me to forget about. He didn't sound angry, so I forgot about it. He came home about an hour later FURIOUS with me for asking him to remind his mom to remind me.

He accused me of not wanting to unplug the thing, never helping or doing anything for anyone (far from true)and pointing out all of the flaws of his D's (I have done this, but only in the context of them not doing something that inconveniences us - and I don't do it anymore). He also said that I don't like them, "so let's just call a spade a spade". He then said he wondered why we were getting married in a couple of months. He has enabled both adult-D's poor behavior and over dependence. Examples of both: told DD 19 that she had until end of May to clean her room. It was so messy that she didn't even know how or where to start. Fast forward 6/14, he tells her it isn't cleaned and he will toss everything. She cries and they (mainly him) clean her room together. She walks out beaming. The other older DD 24 just moved back two months ago and is in Europe for several weeks. She left us with a smelly rodent cage. This is the one thing that I have brought up many times prior to her vacation because the stench is unbelievable and probably not healthy. He'll ask her to close her door, but moments later she reopens it and the smell permeates the entire house. I'll ask maybe a second time for him to speak to her and he says, "I already told her, what do you want me to do?" So, she gone and I put a towel at the bottom of her door and i didn't say a word. I guess he saw this (last week) because he took the cage outside and scrubbed it. It was the 8 week -not washed- urine soaked bedding that was causing the main odor. He washed that at a coin-op laundry.

So, yes I guess the towel pointed out the smell AND I have not been picking up the slack of the younger DD's undone chores - dishes. I only do them when we can no longer wait and need something - like silverware!! I'm sure he is seeing how his kids are and he is frustrated by them and their BS. He's complained about what they don't do all week and I only listen, making no suggestions. Don't know why I am posting this - I guess partly to vent. I did tell him that if he feels what he says to be true, then he needs to let me know ASAP, so that I can be on my merry unmarried way. I feel if I keep staying quiet about his kids and not cover for them at all, he will EVENTUALLY be forced to deal with them directly rather than redirecting his anger at me. What do you think? I know, RUN, but otherwise are there any other thoughts?
