I'd like any guesses to the type of grape, it was the best grape I've eaten. It was a small red grape with seeds, but they were very small seeds. It had a slip skin. It was raised on a Michigan farm and appeared for sale over here in season, in a package with white grapes and black grapes, and there were never very many of the little reds in each package. I have no idea how to describe tastes all that well or how many types of grapes there are, if guessing this would be possible.

podpiper: I grow grapes using a 4 arm Kniffen system. I grow concord and Canadice that way. Many years ago I grew Reliance the same way too. My vines are 8' apart (great on concord) but too far away for Canadice. I love Canadice but it is a wimpy grower. I should have spaced the Canadice 6' apart. My memory of Reliance was that it grew much more vigorous than Canadice. For wire, I believe it is #10 or #12 guage that I used. I have the bottom wire at 3' and the top wire at 5' height. If I had to do it all over, I would put the top wire at 6'. Odd, but I find the vines on the top wire always produce more fruit than those on the bottom wire. Perhaps my wires are too close and the vines on top are shading the bottom wire too much?

I don't know what they are but they could hardly grow any worse or die any faster of Pierce's Disease than "Concord" would in central Florida. Home Depot and Lowes cheat tens of thousands of gardeners yearly by selling them plants that will not grow in their region. Go to a local private nursery and buy one of the University of Florida selections that is resistant to PD. One is similar to "Concord" it is claimed, named "Conquistador" I believe, but there are others PD resistant selections from U of F ("Stover" "Lake Emerald" "Blue Lake" and others). Ask your extension office for the names of some local nurseries that have these grapes. None of us who really cares about fruit growing should ever by a fruit plant from these big box cheats. A crepe myrtle on clearance, maybe. Or a clearance "Bradford" ornamental pear to graft onto. But don't encourage their widespread cheating of unknowing customers by buying fruit plants from them, even the occasional appropriate one. Lowes' signs claiming expert gardening advice are especially galling.

If you want to try to figure out on your own (I am not familiar with southern grapes) you can checkthe BONAP maps for Vitis to see which grape species occur in your area and then look up images of each species on line to see which fits best.
