I know most of the conversation on this thread is on the JJ's, but I picked up one of the 'generic' dwarfs from Hines nursery at Lowe's. As there were many others available (which are now all gone), and I wasn't satisfied with 'Plumeria Assorted', I contacted the nursery and they kindly replied within 24 hours with the following: "Plumeria âÂÂDwarf Singapore Pinkâ (Plumeria obtusa) This new dwarf hybrid of Singapore Plumeria is a seedling mutation from Plumeria obtusa. If kept warm and in bright light, it will remain evergreen, keeping its leaves. Also, it will flower all year. The plant is a dwarf, well-branched small tree that grows well in containers. Leaves are long, leathery and glossy green. Bloom clusters appear at the terminal tips of branches." I'm putting that to the test here in So Cal! It was transplanted after a day at the house at it was water logged after being purchased and now sits in a mix of 1/3 Perlite, 1/3 Pumice, and 1/3 Big R. Time will tell. Cheers! Dan

Its coming along great Tuan. I can see its going to have a nice paver patio around it. One of the tropicals that gives good returns are the Guava's. As always,Mango tree's also. Cherimoyas. White Sapote- but thats a full blown tree and I cant promise you would love it. I do..but some can't take the custard texture. Persimmons in fall give a lot of fruit. I'm waiting to endorse banana's. For you Papaya's should be easy. I hear Thai "Red" is a heavy producer along with the common Solo. Anyways- nice Pitaya set up.

This isn't exactly about cleaning floors, more about keeping them nice once they ARE clean. I have dark walnut (think chocolate bars . . . ) engineered hardwood floors throughout the house, except for kitchen, baths, entry. They don't get 'dirty' per se, but, honestly, I don't think there is a person on this planet who could keep them dust-free. They get dusty in just a couple of days. Perfect solution? Roomba. He chugs all over, all by his little self. His HEPA filters catch ALL the dust. There is even noticeably less on the furniture. I guess that's because Roomba vacuums it up instead of just flinging it around everywhere the way a regular vacuum does. This is, of course, starting with a floor that's basically clean. If someone comes through and leaves a footprint, a damp cloth takes it right up. The tile is dealt with by Braava, Roomba's sister. As for the OP's question, I vote for taking up as much of the Murphy's as possible with warm water. Rinse, rinse again, then follow with the Glass Plus. Skate around on towels to wipe up the leavings.

Sorry I disappeared. We had an unexpected car buying event, and the new car needs some attention. The good news in your jar test is all that stuff floating on top is organic matter. That's a good percentage. And I'm not at all surprised about the mix. You're so close to the river that it sort of had to be sandy. You might actually be able to find soybean meal in Riverside. About 10 years ago I was looking in the Temecula area for feed store organics. The only thing I could find was soybean meal. It was $40 for a 40-pound bag, though. That's ridiculous. Even commercially bagged organic fertilizer was less than that. The key thing you're looking for in organic fertilizer is protein. The protein usually comes in the form of alfalfa, soy, corn, flax, and cottonseed. Sometimes they will add animal byproducts such as feather meal. All the grains, nuts, and beans will decompose and become available in a week or two. Feather meal takes forever the first time you use it, but if you use it at least annually it will decompose faster and faster each time. But feathers really boost the protein, so manufacturers will sometimes put it into an otherwise weak mix. You also will see poultry litter listed as an ingredient. As far as I'm concerned, that stuff is between good and great. You can't use it fresh in any quantity, but by the time it's been bagged, it's good for the lawn.
