Layout Tweak Need Opinions on two Options
Comments (8)Well, first get your cooking appliance in. It's a kitchen. You have to be able to cook the way you want to. Second, I don't know if it's to make the drawing easier, or a true change: I don't like losing the angle on the outside of the house, so I hope it's the former. As to the cabinets, they can always be made useful. I have a necessary 9" lower between a bank of appliances and the corner. Can't be helped. When I first saw it labeled "tray" by the cabinet maker I kept saying "no, I don't want that" because it's the wrong size and location for trays for me. It might make a great tray pull-out for you, however. Think cookie sheets, carving board, cooling racks, etc. Or a spice/oil/wine pullout. The alternative I came up with for my location is cereal and crackers. I would have otherwise put them in an upper, but it's a good use for the pullout. I like the looks of the one with the angle better, however. Would it be more useful as drawers? Perhaps have a cabinet on the far side of the cooktop? Are you willing to consider asymmetry? Move the rangetop to the left a little so that it'll fit? If you lose an inch and gain your preferred appliance is it worth it? The uppers look good with the angle. Have you considered a corner style cupboard there? With a door with a center hinge you'd be able to open up that whole upper corner space. It might not look as sleek, but could be useful....See MoreI need HELP: window grilles or not?
Comments (3)Rengmarg, Welcome to the home forum! Your house is precious and those front windows are screaming for some snazzy grilles to add character and charm!! Luckily, according to the Marvin website, you have plenty of options. Your home would look gorgeous with the "Cottage T", "Checkrail", or "Checkrail T" grille pattern on the front windows. In addition, if you really want increase your wow factor, consider adding casings and subsills to those front windows. The "Potter" or "Brick Mould" casing with the A217 subsill would compliment your home beautifully. IMHO, I don't think it would look "weird" to have grilles in the front windows of the LR and not on the others, but weird is usually in the eye of the beholder, so go with what makes you feel best. After all, you're going to be the one sitting in your living room. It needs to work for YOU. As for the porch view that you would like to keep uninterrupted, you could opt for no grilles, OR you could choose a pattern that offers a little interest, with maximum "viewing" potential. Perhaps the "Cottage A" pattern? You didn't mention cost being a deciding factor, so I didn't take it into consideration when making suggestions. I hope this helps! Be sure and post an "after" picture. I'd love to see how it turns out. Here is a link that might be useful: Grille and casing options...See Moreupdate and need opinions! New subway tile option!
Comments (7)Welll...I have sat and looked at this sample board for a few days now. The pictures were taken in the daytime. The first late afternoon night I had the board up, I knew they weren't going to work. The golden in them turned orangey, similar to how they appear in the fourth picture. Back to the drawing board.... sigh. In the mean time, I am hoping to have the splash pulled out and patched and then paint over the disaster that I am sure is under there. From there I will have a more color neutral base for which to place the tiles and hopefully get a truer overall look of any tiles I am looking at. If I have to live with it like that until I find "The One", so be it. I just want the existing one out ASAP....See MoreGARAGE DOOR OPINIONS- windows or no and if so..style ? Need asap!
