Looks like it's possible. I'd take the photo to a cabinet maker and ask for help. Finding the right hinge will be the difficult part.

Is there not a partition that the doors hide behind? My unit has a divider so any additional shelves could be installed on it.

You can probably install shelves OVER the sliding mechanism--you just won't be able to slide the doors in but will still be able to open them. But if you haven't already seen the inside and it's a nicer piece, it'll probably have the dividers Annz mentioned so that you can install shelves for AV components.

Wow. I have an armoire that looks exactly like your but with the hinged doors. Mine is made in Canada by a company called Shermag. Mine is solid maple though.

I have a few dressers from that exact line! It is sturdy stuff with a good finish. There were a lot of that style made and some were not so good. Pretty sure it's NOT all solid cherry, but good quality veneers and solid where it counts.

Do you need the doors to open more than 90 degrees? If not, then you can just use it without changing the hinges. You might have to put shelf standards on strips of wood (sorry--the term escapes me) so they clear the slider mechanism.

Mine are also swing-in .You can see that it is basically a box within a box.Excuse the mess..I should have staged it.

I have almost the exact unit. The vertical supports for the shelf are glued to the inside of the box. In mine, for the hinge at lower left, the screws have come out and there is no way (for me) to screw them back in since the glued shelf is in the way.

I like the retractable doors, but now mine is swinging by the upper hinge -- screws were way too small for the heavy wood doors and daily use.

Oh, and that is a cut-out you see in the back. Very flimsy particle board.

Not too sure this helps you, but it helps me if someone says the door swing can be changed. I might try the same.

This is a bit hard to explain but here goes. I did the same thing with a corner TV unit that a friend gave me. My TV was too wide and I still like my TV hidden in LR. It's been a few years so I'm doing this from memory. Remove the slider rails. Since you have another like it with "regular" doors look and see how the hinges are connected. Do the hinges show from the front or are they hidden behind the face frame with the "door" side of the hinge routed into the door? You're at an advantage because you have another piece to reference. The biggest PITA is making sure that the doors will close and meet correctly in the middle. Mine for some reason left too much of a gap in the middle and rather than running a strip of wood behind to hide the gap, I built out the face frame with some narrow strips of wood and used off-set hinges to make them close. It really sounds much tougher than it is.
The shelves are easy, either drill little holes and use shelf supports or cut pieces of wood to attach to the sides of the cabinet to use as supports.
Really not a major project and I'd go for it since the cabinet is a wonderful piece.
