Can't decide - BM & TOM in our (tiny) apartment?

I am writing to get some advice and would appreciate any and all views. I'm not a frequent poster on here but a very frequent lurker. Sorry in advance that this will go long.

A recap...my BF (39) and I (29) have been together 18 months, living together for the last six months. We decided to move in together after he asked, and received, the blessing from my father for our marriage. I do not have the ring - BF is paying it off before giving it to me at my request. (He has a lot of debt and I don't want to cause more of it.)

BF has DD9 and DD5 who live several states away and visit infrequently (see previous posts). They are lovely and smart and a joy. BM and her husband of the past two years (who is, in fact, TOM) are bringing the girls to us this weekend for visitation (we will drive them back at the other end of the visit).

The first time they came earlier this year to exchange the girls with us, BM and TOM were invited to our apartment where we all sat and chatted. We served them food and drinks. They had not been to our place since we had moved in together and we both thought BM had a right to see where the girls would be staying. Not to mention the fact that they had been on the road for 8+ hours and letting them rest, visit and eat a little, before they headed to wherever they were going next, was just the decent thing to do.

Although I have a friendly/civil relationship with BM (she requested that we be "friends" on Facebook which I allowed), I am a little bit uncomfortable with her coming to our apartment. Some of this is because I want to have good boundaries with her - she has major boundary and control issues which she has admitted to me. She has taken the liberty of buying us housewarming "gifts" that are a perfect representation of her style and taste! Some of my hesitation is because our apartment is *tiny* (you can see right into our bedroom from the living room) and she lives in a huge, fancy house which I have been to. Maybe some of it is because I am younger and a little defensive about trying to assert myself as the female "head" of my household. But whatever it is, the thought of her coming again this Friday while I am at work and not even there is eating me alive. I am a very private person and intensely uncomfortable with this kind of scrutiny, to the point where I sometimes wonder if I am "the right person for the job".

BF is more than willing to have them meet him somewhere nearby for the exchange, but I almost feel like this would be making a bigger deal of things than necessary. I don't want to jeopardize my fragile, new relationships with BM, TOM and the girls. My house is not a showcase for BM anyway, it's just where we BF and I are making our first home together. Why am I so queasy!?

As a child of divorce myself, my parents and their GFs/BFs were always welcome in each other's homes, as well as in the homes of relatives on all sides, and I *really* appreciated that and wouldn't want to be less gracious in my own adult life. There is no question that everyone being welcome is best for the girls.

So...sorry again if there is a lack of clarity to this post, but I would like to hear thoughts on my situation and how I could best not ostracize BM but still have boundaries in a small apartment that she is sure to poke her nose into every corner of. (I say this is in all seriousness as last time/the first time she was there, she found it necessary to advise me that a painting in our bedroom was actually a wedding gift to HER and my BF! She did this in a very bless-your-heart-aren't-you-cute kind of way...gag.)

Thx!
