calling the boyfriend Daddy

Hi - I am new to this forum and am looking for some advice. I will just cut to the chase - basically, my husband's 2 children from a previous relationship call their mother's boyfriend Daddy. The children are now 6 and 8 and this had been going on for 3 years now. It is now at the point where the kids will slip and refer to the boyfriend as their Dad in front of my husband and it just breaks his heart. It all started because the kids' mother wanted her youngest (whose father is not in the picture) to call her boyfriend Daddy and so she had the kids (then 3 and 5) call him Daddy to get her 1 year old to do the same. Obviously, it then became habit and she has since refused to have my husband's children call her boyfriend by his name. Anytime my husband brings it up, she says that he is over-reacting and that it's not a big deal that they call her boyfriend Daddy. (As a side note, before her boyfriend came into the picture, the kids would try to call me Mommy, which very much upset their mother and out of respect for her and the fact that the kids were way too young to understand the situation, we made them call me by my name.) Has anyone ever dealt with a similar situation? What should my husband do? (and yes, he is very much involved in their lives and we have regular visitation).
