Some people have trouble from hteir phones and you have to remember to wait until the grayed pic becomes clear I am not seeing a typical New Orleans hose form that pic and I can’t enlarge that pic to see well enough to advise.These to me are typical New Orleans homes and yours is nothing like them from what I see

deco, this house is not in the Quarter. OP said it is in the central city area. There is a difference. OP, it looks so typically NO. I think that at this point you can do whatever you want with it as that is probably what the previous owners have all done to it. If it were my choice, I would choose to take it even more modern and not worry too much about restoring any really original outside to it, just my opinion. I lived there for a few years and have both sides of the family still there, but have never been involved in getting permits and such. With the experience with my families after the storm, I don't think that there are as many restrictions for what you can do there as one might imagine there to be, aside from the usual safety ones around electrical and plumbing, unless you have some historical designation. It is a pretty free wheeling place. The storm destroyed a lot of the old, but a lot of the new looks pretty darned good! It gave NO a refreshed look. At a price, yes.

We haven't been in recent years either but TBH, I have never done home shopping, etc. there. This is one of the best places for people watching and eating. Oh, now I want a beignet!!! I'm not glad for the hurricane, don't mean to sound like that, but, I am so glad the city was forced to clean up then. It was nothing to see huge rats run the sidewalks in the past. I love the Garden District and could just walk, sit, look for hours. Music is wonderful there too as is the architecture and the gardens. Do be careful on your own though, there are people who ask for money on every corner it seems. We had a guy serenade us (at the top of his lungs LOL) until my husband finally gave him money. On another note, not sure your son would be interested in this, if he is interested in history, military history, the DDay Museum is fantastic and that is usually not my thing at all.
