blinds between the glass....hung window

I am working on a nursing facility and they are persistant on blinds between the glass for the windows. The problem is they want single hung windows since they are typically easier to operate for older people than casements. Does anyone know if these even exist? I know Pella and Eagle have blinds, and we use commercial sliders typically on school projects that use blinds, but they want a homey feeling window. Material can be anything at this point...vinyl, fiberglass, wood, etc. Just looking for options out there anyone knows about.

For vinyl, Sunrise offers blinds between the glass in their Vanguard double hung. If you want single hungs, you could have them secure the top sash so that only the bottom sash is operable.

On Pella designer Series they can because the blinds are behind a hinged panel...on other brands that have them such as Eagle, no they cannot, nor can they be serviced if they break

Enclosed would be a great idea. I know I've seen them on many houses I've worked on, they're magnetic. They're not sealed in the argon sense of the world, in essence they're triple glazing with the argon part to the outside. You'll just have to google or go to the big hardware stores and look and ask, I know I've seen them on french doors, so windows might be a custom order. It's actually a great idea for a kitchen window (as long as you don't want an opener I guess) much cleaner.

What you did is broke the seal in order to remove the blind so now the thermal rate for the window is gone and it will get moisture in between the 2 panes. Those integrated blinds have never mde sense to me I have seen so many of them with the blind hanging crooked and can’t be fixed was a stupid idea for sure . Why not just pull them all the way up and leave them and save towards getting new windows at least for some of the worst ones.

Mie0782, what’s the advantage of a slider over an awning? Or were you thinking vinyl vs. fiberglass? We installed vinyl about 15 years ago and they have performed well, but now that we’re changing out windows with this remodel, I want to upgrade them. I’m also more concerned about environmal toxins today, so I’m trying to avoid vinyl if I can (creates toxins during manufacturing and also if the house catches on fire. i live in CA and though my town isn’t considered high risk, the last few years have seen unprecedented wildfires so you never know. Even if I’m not exposed to the chemicals personally, I’d rather avoid putting them into the environment if I can).

They also have a single hung that is listed on their site.

I would always opt for a double hung unless you specifically require the single hung.

thanks guys I will check them out. Reason for single hung vs double on facilities like this is if the upper sash slides down some, its hard to impossible for elderly to push it up in order to lock them in place. In the past I have used single hungs from Marvin Integrity and Pella (owner demanded).

You can do the pella. Also you can look at Sunrise.

Sunrise's single hung is not reinforced, therefore I don't recommend it. It's also not as attractive as the double hung.

What makes a SH unit easier to operate than a casement? The major manufacturers offer ADA compliant casement hardware and even motorized units that can operate at the push of a button.

Casements are more expensive, but with a SH/DH unit you have to buy 2 sets of blind between the glass which will cost more than the casement with a single blind.

Who ever you go with make sure they have a good warranty and service. We have done several commercial projects with blinds between the glass and they add some work to the project, but the clients love them.

Any sales rep that is bidding the job needs to provide a list of commercial projects that they have installed blinds between the glass on. Preferably projects that are 10 years old and you can go look at. See how the blinds are holding up. A lot of window peddlers will claim they have a product durable enough for commercial use, but only a few of them have the projects and track record to back it up.
