My sister owns a beautiful lake home. She's looking to add a gas fireplace and would love suggestions! I promised her that the awesome, talented and generous people on Gardenweb would help her out. She's interested in stone but isnt sure of what type or color and is undecided as to what type of mantle and hearth would look best. Also, should she continue the stone above the mantle to the celing, or no? She definitely will NOT be putting a TV above. The family room is 24 X 16, and is an open space concept. Kitchen, moldings and windows are white. Case goods are darkish oak. Do you have any suggestions for her? Any help is deeply appreciated. Here are a couple pics of the space:
