Cake is finished!!

Here is the cake done, didn't like the white grout so painted it pink, now to move onto the cementing of the flower and dragonfly armitures.....

Well if you don't beat ALL!!!!!!!!! That is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING I EVER SAW!!! Prettier than ANYTHING on the site from which you were inspired for this piece. You TAKE the CAKE!!!

You could sell these as permanent wedding cakes for people who are on a diet or something.
Man, I gotta go to the kitchen, think I have some leftover cake somewhere in the freezer.

Anna Olson's Ultimate Chocolate Cake Cake 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar 1/2 cup brown sugar 2 egg 2 tsp vanilla extract 1/2 cup water 4 oz unsweetened chocolate, chopped 2 tsp espresso powder 1 3/4 cups pastry flour 1/4 cup cocoa powder 1 tsp baking soda 1/4 tsp salt 1 cup sour cream Frosting 2 cups unsalted butter, room temperature 1 egg yolk, optional 12 oz bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, chopped, melted and cooled to room temperature 2 tsp vanilla extract 1/4 tsp salt 2 1/2 cups icing sugar, sifted Directions: Cake Preheat oven to 350 F. Butter and flour 2 9-inch cake pans. Cream butter and sugars together until fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. In a small pan stir water, chocolate and espresso powder over low heat until melted. Allow to cool slightly before beating into butter mixture. Sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt and stir into batter alternately with sour cream. Divide evenly between the 2 pans and bake for 25-35 minutes, until a tester inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool 15 minutes in the pans, then turn cakes out onto a plate to cool completely. Frosting Beat butter on high speed, scraping sides frequently, until light and fluffy. Reduce speed and beat in egg yolk. Add melted chocolate and mix in. Add vanilla, salt and icing sugar and beat until smooth. To Assemble To ice the cake top one layer with icing and spread. Place second cake layer on top. Ice the top of the cake and finish with the sides. Chill cake to set, but it is best stored at room temperature (hence omitting egg yolk in frosting, if desired). Wow, lots of really good options here. So I may as well add another! LOL Actually this is in my "to try" file. i haven't made it but plan to.....soon. Start making the day before, they have to chill overnight. COCONUT CREME BRULEE 1/2 cup plus 6 teaspoons sugar 6 large egg yolks 1 large egg 2 cups whipping cream 2/3 cup unsweetened canned coconut milk* 2/3 cup flaked sweetened coconut Preheat oven to 350°F. Place six 3/4-cup custard cups or ramekins in large roasting pan. Whisk 1/2 cup sugar, egg yolks and whole egg in large bowl to blend. Combine cream, coconut milk and coconut in heavy medium saucepan. Bring to boil. Whisk into yolk mixture. Pour custard into cups, dividing equally. Pour enough hot water into roasting pan to come halfway up sides of cups. Bake until custards are just set in center, about 35 minutes. Remove from water. Cool; chill overnight. Preheat broiler. Arrange custard cups on baking sheet. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon sugar evenly over each. Broil until sugar browns, rotating baking sheet for even browning and watching closely, about 2 minutes. Chill custards at least 1 hour before serving. (Can be broiled, then chilled up to 6 hours ahead.) *Available at Indian, Southeast Asian and Latin American markets and many supermarkets. I love the book, haven't made anything from it yet, but there is so much to go through, the pictures are amazing, and each recipe looks more delicious than the one before. Looking forward to seeing your pictures of Bill's Big Carrot Cake... BILLS BIG CARROT CAKE (Baking From My Home To Yours by Dorie Greenspan) FOR THE CAKE 2 cups all-purpose flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 2 teaspoons baking soda 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 3/4 teaspoon salt 3 cups grated carrots (About 9 carrots; I grate them in a food processor fitted with a shredding blade 1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts or pecans 1 cup shredded coconut (sweetened or unsweetened) 1/2 cup moist, plump raisins (dark or golden) or dried cranberries 2 cups sugar 1 cup canola or safflower oil 4 large eggs FOR THE FROSTING 8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature 1 stick (8 tablespoons) unsalted butter, at room temperature 1 pound (3 3/4 cups) confectioners' sugar, sifted 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice or 1/2 teaspoon pure lemon extract 1/2 cup shredded coconut (optional) Finely chopped toasted nuts and/or toasted shredded coconut, for topping (optional) GETTING READY: Position the racks to divide the oven into thirds and preheat the 325 degrees F. Butter three 9-x-2-inch round cake pans, flour the insides and tap out the excess. Put two pans on one baking sheet and one on another. THE CAKE: Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. In another bowl, stir together the carrots, chopped nuts, coconut and raisins. Working with a stand mixer, preferably fitted with a paddle attachment, or a hand mixer in a large bowl, beat the sugar and oil together on medium speed until smooth. Add the eggs one by one, and continue to beat until the batter is even smoother. Reduce the speed to low and add the flour mixture, mixing only until the dry ingredients disappear. Gently mix in the chunky ingredients. Divide the batter among the baking pans. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, rotating the pans from top to bottom and front to the midway point, until a thin knife inserted into the centers comes out clean; the cakes will have just started to come away from the sides of the pans. Transfer the cakes to cooling racks and cool for about 5 minutes, then run a knife around the sides of the cakes and unmold them. Invert and cool to room temperature right side up. (The cakes can be wrapped airtight and kept at room temperature overnight or frozen for up to 2 months.) TO MAKE THE FROSTING: Working with the stand mixer, preferably fitted with a paddle attachment, or with a hand mixer in a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy. Gradually add the sugar and continue to beat until the frosting is velvety smooth. Beat in the lemon juice or extract. If youÂd like coconut in the filling, scoop out about half of the frosting and stir the coconut into this portion. TO ASSEMBLE THE CAKE: Put one layer top side up on a cardboard cake round or a cake plate protected by strips of wax or parchment paper. If you added the coconut to the frosting, use half of the coconut frosting to generously cover the first layer (or cover generously with plain frosting). Use an offset spatula or a spoon to smooth the frosting all the way to the edges of the layer. Top with the second layer, this time placing the cake top side down, and frost with the remainder of the coconut frosting (or more plain frosting). Top with the last layer, right side up, and frost the topÂand the sides, if you wantÂof the cake. Finish the top with swirls of frosting. If you want to top the cake with toasted nuts or coconut, sprinkle them on now, while the frosting is soft. Refrigerate the cake for 30 minutes, just to set the frosting before serving. MAKES 10 SERVINGS SERVING: The cake can be served as soon as the frosting is set. It can also wait, at room temperature and covered with a cake keeper, overnight. The cake is best served in thick slices at room temperature and while it's good plain, it's best with vanilla ice cream or even some Lemon Curd (page 462) with a little whipped cream folded in. STORING: Covered, the cake will keep at room temperature for 2 to 3 days. It can also be frozen. Freeze it uncovered, then, when it is firm, wrap air-tight and freeze for up to 2 months; defrost, still wrapped, in the refrigerator overnight.

Thanks everyone! I'm happy with the way it turned out! I take the flowers and cradle them on my hand, resting on a cushion, then give the base a good wack with my tile nippers!!! Then as the base falls away there is a pile of mortarish stuff that I keep wacking gently till the flowers sort of "pop" out. I didn't even make a dent in my "Flower stash"!!! Have an idea for a mural using the wonderboard that Klinger and I halved/scored the other day , by doing what Spicyart has been doing. And also CrackpotAnnie with her headboards...it's still percolating in my mind...
so I went out to my shed, well, actually off the side/entry to the shed is a 10ftwide x 30ft long greenhouse area that I am using for a gardenshed area, well DH stored all my concrete there, against my better judgement, and it got damp and is ruined so waiting for him to grab some more on his way home today, I'll use the rock solid stuff for stairs down my back yard.. lemonade...hmmm, while I'm waiting maybe I'll haul those cupcake supplies out.....

That is really beautiful...I got a cavity just looking at that rich icing! This is the first mosaic cake I've seen, so I can't compare it to anyone else's cakes, but this sure is beautiful!!!!! You do really awesome work!

CALAM: Be careful using those nippers for a hammering tool. CRAZY GIRLIE!! IMHO, using a screwdriver and hammer to gently tap them away from the base is easier, and saves your nippers.

Jane, you cake is BEAUTIFUL!! Makes me wish I had a dining room so I had a spot for one!

Are you wacking the base in your hand? Or just the flowers in your hand and wacking the base.I'm WAY too clutzy for that method LOL

Slow, I use my old non-wheeled nippers as a hammer All THE TIME!! Won't risk the whelled ones, though.

Wow, Janie-bo, that cake is delightful. Those flowers look so elegant on it, and even the cake holder is lovely. So much more foofoo than you usually make, and it's gorgeous. Maybe you are a foofoo kinda gal, and I just never realized it hehe.Why you lil hef** you. Where you gonna put it?

I rambled on and got so excited to send the post, complimenting you on the cake..
I didn't push 'submit message'....

what I had said, was that I'd bet anything that you could take that picture and show any bakery in your area and get orders for them to buy one, made for the bakery.

I saw the site where you got the inspiration and funny thing is, that when I saw the same cake on the same site..I was never motivated to make a cake like that.
not until I saw the one you did..
it's just amazing and delicate!
what a great idea for a shower, birthday gift or for whatever other ocassions that could be suitable for a cake like yours.

How sweet you all are!! I handed in my notice to quit my job after being there 8yrs!!! I've been all mixed up emotionally about it and so your nice complements are soothing my quitter's soul!!! Here is a pic of my cupcakes, only had enough glass to make 3 in this particular color, I scored this cute glass bird for $2 today, he is so adorable!!! Gotta use him on something! Yup, cupcakes are gonna be grouted and then the "sprinkles" will be added...

Oh Maria! The Peacock!!!! Ya, he'll get some attention!!! I am quitting my dream job of working with street addicts, have helped a lot clean up over the yrs, but it is time to move on, to what I don't know yet! My passion is to work on my yard for the next few months, really give er, and have been talking to DH about visiting Slow and Rosie, anybody else in texas who wants to meet over at Slow's???? I can't go to see them with out Klinger too, she'd be riled!lol! Sooo, I am going to make a whole bunch of garden art to sell and buy a ticket(one way!lol!) to texas!!! Today I am going to play with concrete!!!!
