Anderson 400 Tilt-Wash Double Hung or Marvin Ultimate Double Hung
Comments (8)Donald, while I'd agree that full frame removal installations have multiple circumstances where they would be the preferred option, it would be categorically incorrect to state that "pocket installations do not address any issues that may have resulted from the previous windows". Most homeowners are replacing their windows for energy efficiency, functionality, comfort, aesthetics, less maintenance, improved home value, etc. Pocket installs check all of those boxes and save money to boot. Now if the existing frames have substantial rot, new interior wood work is needed/desired, there is existing water infiltration, and/or the existing units are relatively narrow to the point that losing another 1/2" or so of glass per side would be noticeable (and so much so to justify hundreds more per window), then full frames are a very worthy consideration in those cases. I don't mean to be argumentative in the least, but both installation styles are very viable depending on circumstances, and each has some pros and cons. To the point of the thread, I'd agree with the consensus that Marvin is the superior option here....See MoreMarvin Integrity or Anderson 400 windows?
Comments (14)@Design Girl, thank you! So grateful for your response. This is a big project for us (25 windows, total) and I have been researching for many months. When I came across your post, I thought, "wow...finally...exactly what I want, six over six, SDL, white exterior, traditional....I wonder which she chose." Glad she is happy with her choice! For what it's worth, I had the same impression when I viewed the Elevate. It is a nice looking window but it just struck me as more modern than traditional. And I think that's why it hasn't been at the forefront of my mind, despite hearing mostly positive feedback about it. In addition to its traditional appearance, I also like that the Woodwright has a hidden jamb liner, versus the exposed jamb liner of the Elevate and the 400 series Tilt Wash. It eliminates the concern about how a gray or white or almond etc. exposed jamb liner would look with a painted or stained interior. A white jamb liner would not stand out against a white interior, of course, but if the interior will be a paint color other than white or stained, the color of the exposed jamb liner is a concern to me. I wonder if the thing about the Andersen 400 series sill which you can't recall is that it's got a good slope to it. I have heard that that it is good for shedding water. Thank you, again, for taking the time to respond to my post....See MoreMarvin Windows - order of Ultimate, Integrity, Infinity
Comments (3)Sounds like you spoke to a guy that can't sell Infinity, lol.... That said, its not far off. Ultimate is the flagship regardless, and then Infinity and Integrity are really separate branches on the tree IMO. Infinity is a window designed for the replacement market, and they have exclusive territories etc. It's kind of off on its own in that regard, whereas the Integrity can really be purchased anywhere Marvin products are sold, much like the Ultimate. Personally I prefer the real wood interior on the Integrity if I'm choosing form over function, but I'd also choose the Infinity ultrex over the Integrity all ultrex. In a nutshell, all are well made by a great company in Marvin, none are sensational in terms of performance ratings like you could find in a premium vinyl line or some Canadian fg units, and the "levels" of these three products are not linear from top to bottom....See MoreQuestion on Windows - Pella Architect, Marvin Ultimate, Anderson E
Comments (20)Yes this is high. I have had quite a for all thirteen windows in my house from all vendors. Marvin came out at $8500 for the Elevate which I got from the local hardware store. I’m getting them installed for $300 a window which is a steal, $600 is more avg. I’d take competitive quotes in, they try to beat them. I was deciding between Marvin and Milgard Ultra Series. Milgard only has wood grills not the entire inside of the window....See MoreHomeSealed
