goes to the always wise Sweeby whose posts I look forward to. This one is to me the perfect blend of love and reality rolled into a great way to deal with a particular kind of child:

"DS, who is a bit of a drama queen by nature, suddenly began complaining to me of side effects. (Of course, I had asked him several times in the previous months how he was feeling and he never indicated any of these symptoms.) I knew where it was coming from... So I gave him a big hug, put on my "concerned Mom" face, pulled out the prescription information sheet, and pretended to read the possible side effects to him. Did he have headaches? Yes. Sleeplessness? Yes. Joint pain? (fake - I made it up) Yes, he had that too. Loss of appetite? Yes. Itchy skin? (another fake) Yes - that was awful!"

Nice job, mom!

Only wish it had worked...

Ex badgered prescribing Doctor into agreeing to a trial off meds (over the summer, of course), then refused to permit DS to go back on them. And IMO, they had really helped...

I just wanted to add that I really love reading sweeby's posts too! I'm not suprised something she said made it to a "post of the day."

Your daylilies are lovely. I like the first one Tune the Harp, the best. When posting messages after you hit the preview button, your pictures and message should be showing so you can hit submit. If not, you have goofed. Go back and redo. Don't worry, we all had a first time but now we are old pros :-))

Ellie, thanks for your comment. To which seedling are you referring, if you don't mind my asking? Sharon, I always love it when that first seedling blooms. It is such a soft pink but it is the triangular eyezone that I really like. Debra, I think Southern Dazzle is very striking in the garden because it is so unique. Yes the eyezone is quite huge. The eyezone and the purple on the double edge blend together and it seems the eye almost doesn't end. Answering Angels likes its pollen. Can you imagine the eyezone from this cross? Chris, Cosenza is new for me this year and this bloom is not the best by far, since it is one of the last blooms on that scape. I have really been impressed by the beauty of this daylily. Glad you like it. Gonegardening, I am fine after my monthly injection in the eye. Thanks for your concern. I have been doing this for about a year and a half. It is the only thing that keeps me from losing my central vision. One does what one needs to do. It isn't fun, but I recover nicely. Thanks to all who looked. Happy Gardening. Ann

I missed my workout Monday cause I was sick lol, yesterday I went to a funeral, so today I did my bike come heck or high water! and I feel so much better for getting on my bike. I don't know what to do/say so that Donna will feel the need to join us but the one thing I do know is that it takes approximately three weeks of doing something to make it a habit and after it becomes a habit you really feel like something is missing if you stop doing it. You also need to pick something you think you'll like to do or it will just become another chore.

Maryl - I thought f. Val Sweetheart would improve in bud count and height where I planted it last fall, but it hasn't at this time. What was a full sun spot when I planted the divisions is not now (5.5 hours of sun). The ones planted in the slightly sunnier spot only had 13-14 buds, pretty much the same as those fans still in the part-shade seedling bed, which get 5 hours of sun. The highest bud count I've ever had on that seedling is 16 buds. Plants in both areas do have instant rebloom this year, and the rebloom scapes look they're going to have about 12 buds. Anyway this years stats didn't give me the registration flag. In the fall, I'll once again move some divisions to a sunnier spot and hope for better things next year. This time I'm moving it to a place no trees can shade it. Hoosier Nan - The Ruby Lipstick seedling ended up having 15 buds, which is pretty good for a first-year bloomer. So sorry to hear that, Sweeby. It's very hard to have obvious solutions right in your face but ignored when it comes to your kids.

At the moment, this whole thing feels very "in my face" as DS is taking (and re-taking and re-taking) his college boards. And sadly, his earlier struggles with reading still can't be put neatly behind him because he's misreading the SAT/ACT questions and getting them wrong when he knows the material!

But of course, he's not dyslexic either - (Just ask Ex!) And all of the experts who said he was were just doing it for the money they would make doing the tutoring that didn't get done. (I did get some remedial work in, but not enough before Ex and StepMom intervened and put a stop to it.)

And now Ex is threatening to pull DS's college fund because he's blaming DS's poor test performance on "LAZY"! (OK - Granted, there's some truth to the 'he's lazy' position, but it's also $100K worth of convenient.)
