Help me plan for building a new custom home FAST
Comments (41)LAURA12:: You didn't see your name at the top of two of these replies in bold, to the right of a pink star, one response each for your two posts? :P This forum has provided me with some great feedback, but the layout, search features and almost everything about the website itself could be improved and made more user friendly. 'Skeptical', maybe. Maybe 'ignorant', 'naive' or 'just starting' plus 'stubborn' (or if we're gonna be friends, 'determined') would more precisely describe my mentality lol. I saw FHA, new construction and other very affordable down % and took that into my want for a custom home, not realizing that the custom requires more up front. Your cost breakdown is quite helpful and the $150/sqft mark makes sense when I consider the prices I've seen for houses other than ticky-tacky. This one here we're currently renting sold last April sold for something like $91/sqft, and the more I'm seeing, the more I realize how good a deal that purchase was. I'm now more strongly leaning toward more of a mass construction and I'll be sure to keep asking about any kinds of alterations with regards to resale value. You mentioned something about affordable contractors in the area?...See MoreNeed help deciding on appliances for a new build kitchen! Sub vs Icon
Comments (8)While I agree with you that the Electrolux looks great and seems comparable to the other brands, the reality is, Electrolux has numerous design flaws in several appliances and lacks any customer support. I too fell for the looks of an Electrolux built in ICON double oven and regret it. I have a Subzero side by side and love it. My sister has a Subzero side by side that is 15 years old and has only ever needed one out of warranty repair. Subzero does require an upfront investment; however, this will pay off over the life of the appliance. Electrolux spends a lot of money on looks, marketing and special incentive offers. This is all designed to lure the customer in and overlook the quality issues. Electrolux filters all reviews on their own website. When called out on this, they say the reviews are "reviewed" by a third party to distance themselves from this filtering process. Just look at their FB pages, comments and postings, over the course of a few random days. You will see for yourself the myriad of complaints about Electrolux products flaws and lack of customer support for yourself. After awhile, you will see for yourself the eerily similar stories from consumers. i wished someone had drawn my attention to the lack of any ownership of malfunctions by Electrolux and the aggravation of no customer support whatsoever. Avoid Electrolux and save yourself the aggravation....See MoreClosing on a new build home, overwhelmed, please help me decorate
Comments (12)I want to put a table and chairs there but it looks like the builders installed the light fixture off centered. I suspect they placed it off center to allow for a walking space between the dining table and the island. If you don't care for the fixture -- and I don't either, so plain, doesn't coordinate with the island pendants -- change it, but I would not change the location. Furthermore, if you change the location, you'll probably have to "swag it", and I doubt that's the look for which you're searching. I recommend moving in and actually placing your dining furniture to determine the scale and room needed. Good advice. Go ahead and place your existing table ... then you can judge whether you need something larger /smaller /different shape. Do Nothing now. That "dining space " is too small to be considered one, unless a table for two under the window. Oh, come on. It's not a huge space, but it can certainly hold more than a two-top....See MoreBuilding a new home but can’t decide on exterior paint
Comments (45)Angela Burton - I can't believe you picked that color. I had not read this thread previously and was going through it, and was going to suggest that exact color! My brother has a new home in the mountains that is exactly that color scheme and it looks beautiful - all year long. But it is completely stunning in the winter with snow on the ground. Your home looks awesome - good choice!...See Morekswl2
