I know it's too late for this year, but I'm adding my experience for those who find this thread next year. We had a Frontgate or Grandin Road tree for about 5 years and it was OK until one part of the lights went out and it was pretty hard to figure out how to fix it. The Light Keeper tool mentioned above would probably have worked, but the tree was damaged during our move over the summer anyway. Plus, I have higher ceilings now so I wanted a taller tree. I found the website christmastreeforme.com quite informative about the construction and lighting of artificial trees. I was going to buy from them, but the one I liked only came with multi-colored lights and I wanted clear. I ended up finding one on the vickerman.com website. Vickerman is a wholesale company and they have a good search engine for finding the size tree you want. I then used the model number to find it online at elightbulbs.com. They had very good prices, and I noticed a Vickerman tree on the christmastreeforme.com website for a couple hundred dollars more than it was at elightbulbs.com. I ordered on a Wednesday and had my tree 5 days later, on Monday. I was nervous about getting it because I ordered less than 2 weeks before Christmas. When I emailed elightbulbs.com to check on the status, they responded quickly. I'd order from them again. The tree was easy to set up. Mine came in 4 sections and the lights had to be connected in a few places, but everything was well marked. The branches are all hinged, and it took well over an hour to fluff them out after I put the tree together. I chose a tree with Vickerman's "Dura-Lit" lights because they are supposed to stay lit even if multiple bulbs are removed or burned out. With 800 lights on the tree, I don't want to have to do a lot of troubleshooting so I hope the lights work for several years. I thought about getting LED lights that would last much longer, but I've seen some unfavorable reviews about the color and intensity of the light. My next tree will be LED, I'm sure. Overall I am happy with this tree. It's the 8.5'H x 60"W blue albany spruce. I bent some of the lower branches up a bit so it would fit in a smaller space, so it is probably closer to 54"W. I found 8.5'H is good for my almost 10' ceilings. By the way, I like to put an angel on top of my tree and most artificial trees can't support the weight of it. I found a tree topper extension kit from balsamhill.com for $20 that worked well. I was able to put my angel exactly where I wanted it. Balsam Hill had quick shipping as well, and I got my extension kit the same day I got my tree.

They're OK. I like a "real" tree but doubt I'll ever have another live one. First the cost, second the hassle. I could see having a small white one, or green. Doesn't bother me, I like them all for the most part. I've been looking for a small silver tree similar to the larger ones popular back in the 60s. My aunt had one of the silver aluminum ones with the large red ornaments and complete with the color wheel. Although I really enjoyed the once live trees we had when I was growing up I always liked that tree for some reason. Been waxing nostalgically over that tree for a long time.

Here's mine! My DGSs got it trimmed for me late Sat - tree had been delivered and installed and gal who does my lights had them already on it. I do love a Christmas tree! I still love having the old C-9 colored lights on mine but also use the white Italian ones as well. The star on the top (in dismal condition) was chosen by my DS when he was not yet 2 yrs old - he said a Christmas tree HAD to have a star on top. It's two layers of aluminum heavy foil, silver on back and blue on front. It used to have a thing on the back to slip down on the top of the tree - alas, long gone. I was purchased 46 years ago and has amazingly survived many moves! Here are some pictures of some of my favorite things, I've collected since I was first married in 1966. These are little decorated candles I bought at Woodward & Lothrop our first Christmas after we were married. They sit in small clip-on tin holders. Obviously, they are never lit, but I love the old fashioned look. When my 2nd husband and I got engaged, I flew east to meet his family the day after Xmas. We left a couple of days later to go to their house on Martha's Vineyard for New Years. A lovely store in Edgartown, that carried traditional men's and women's clothes and some gift items, was going out of business and having a final sale. In addition to a great buy on a classic Gloverall toggle coat, I bought 4 ornaments - the last they had. The tag says they are made in England. All hand-made and hand trimmed and tag said "genuine mink" trim. Here are two of them - I especially adore the Wise Man - true treasures and irreplaceable. I also have a small collection of Nativity scenes. The top one, belonged to my late MIL. It had lost its seal and was dusty inside, and the figures had fallen over. A local antique store restored it for me. I love the hand-carved, hand-painted figures - probably made in Germany or Austria. The bottom one includes the tatty old cardboard stable from my childhood scene, and a set of hand carved olive wood figures I bought when my children were young. I wanted them to be able to play "Baby Jesus" with them so wanted them very sturdy. The camel is way out of scale but I love it and bought it somewhere over the years. I love the C-9 light shining through the star cut-out. Someone recently asked somewhere on GW about chandelier decorations. I tried to describe the ones my mother bought in St Louis at a florist shop in Clayton in the early 1960's. These are on a bendable wire and just sit on the candle drip cup. The leaves are fuzzy and the berries are "frosted" with something that is not sugar but looks like it. They're a bit tired but I adore them and they have been a part of Christmas for me now for many, many decades. For me, Christmas decorating is about tradition and the history of ones life. Ornaments collected over the years, bought in museum gift stores on trips, at charity Holiday Boutiques, received as a gift from a dear friend. When I pull them out each Christmas, I clearly remember the origins of them all and once again greet these "old friends". When my children got married, I gave them all "their" ornaments -ones I had bought for them, personalized for them, their various schools etc. Then, over the years when my late husband and I traveled, we bought ornaments in museum stores in London and Paris and gave them to them both. Of course, they have added many, many to their own collections. When my DS knew his wife had filed for divorce, when he took down the tree (they were still living "together, but separate", he carefully took his own ornaments and stowed them away. It would have broken my heart if she'd just tossed them (and she would have!). When my children were young, I always did a very small Christmas tree in their bedroom. It had all those ornaments they had lovingly hand-made in nursery school and early years of elementary school, plus popcorn strung decades before. They loved their own little tree in the room they shared! DD has followed the same tradition with her two boys. This is our last Christmas with my eldest grandson still at home. Of course, he will come home for Christmas from college during the next 4 years, but it's not quite the same. We're all thrilled for him (accepted at his first choice Early Decision - Cornell - Class of 2022!) but oh my, what a wrench to see this dear, dear boy/young man leave the nest. I never realized that one goes through this twice - first with ones own children and then the grands! I probably won't live long enough to see a great grandchild. It's all just gone by way too fast, and Christmas nostalgia for days Christmases Past is very much with me these days.
