@User yes, agree there are a bazillion traditional homes that have converted to the wrought iron spindles and replaced the wood. It's one of the updates seen abundantly. I don't worry about the iron not suiting the architecture because a simple iron spindle is timeless and appropriate for traditional architecture. I was more wondering if these (iron spindles) are a style not being used as prominently as they were in the past decade or two - many conversions complete, I'm starting to see other treatments. The 'other' treatments are super contemporary or modern though and many would conflict with traditional (horizontal glass or geometric or wire or crosshatch or vertical floor to ceiling or uber Mediterranean etc). No doubt a clean wrought iron is absolutely acceptable in a traditional home looking for a transitional update/flare.

I don't imagine that you need a railing for code, but one would be nice. I would cover the posts in white and have a white railing. Some simple plantings along the foundation. This is interesting. I like this one and the style of the porch skirting.

Looking good! A nice start. I'm glad you went with in-ground plantings. I think you'll be happier with that choice. For me personally, I would need some plants on the left side too. Maybe you have plans - you did say this is what you have "so far" so maybe you are already ahead of me. Regarding kazzh's comments - last fall we had our house powerwashed, the first time since we put vinyl siding up about 20 years ago. They said they would do our patio and sidewalk too, which I didn't even know was a thing lol. Oh....my....goodness! Never mind the house! The patio and the sidewalk looked uh-mazing!!! I've always hated that front walkway - just a basic old concrete walkway. It was almost black it was so stained. But replacing it is way down on the priority list. I still don't like that I have a concrete walkway lol, but wow does it look a hundred times better. Our paver patio also looked fabulous and brand-new! So yes, if you can powerwash the porch, steps and sidewalk I think it will really add to your new look! :) Dee

I would do a shed roof, similar to your house roof just maybe a bit more pitch.
