Susan, Murry, MissSherry - Coyotes (like most predators in NA) are in fact not aggressive toward people normally, and will instead cower and run away if you stand your ground with them. Without getting even farther off topic why, lets just leave it at I know a lot about predators and dangerous game, and having spent so much of my life in the wilds I have had way more than my fair share of close encounters and near misses with variuos species of them all over the world, including many that I wouldn't have come out on top with in an actual conflict. So I think their is little doubt that this coyote (or coydog) was sick. Mange doesn't normally make them bold, so a good guess would be rabies. And this one was way beyond bold... hair standing on end, tail up, teeth bared, growling and popping its teeth at me from 3'. Luckily I didn't get bit, just some bruised knuckles and a cut palm from my keyring when I put the fist on the bridge of its snout as hard as I could and knocked it into the blacktop. That was just instinct after being around them all my life, but those "long moments" came into play when it got back to its feet, eyed me in a defensive pose for some time while deciding if it wanted to try for round two. It didn't and finally turned tail and left. Next day I found a canine and another tooth on the road it lost in the conflict. I also called animal control to advise them there was probably a rabid coyote running the neighborhood (and since they know me from the ADC I have done for the city I am sure they believed me). BTW, being in the city means squat when it comes to coyotes and other predators. They are common on the golf course and residential streets here, and EVEN turn up in places like downtown New York City and other big cities. When prey numbers are low in their natural habitat, they just come into town for easy prey like pet cats, small dogs, or in my case for my cottontails/quail. Maybe I better add... Don't try this at home. I know as much about their life histories as I do the leps and have a lot of ADC experience with them, so do know how to handle them. It was just easier when younger and when I moved faster. LOL L.

Last year I only had one pair of slip on - no back loafers type leather shoes (easy airport shoes). My feet and shoes got wet from the dew - not a big deal to sew, as I also sew without shoes- but the the floor in the Sloan Center got kinda messy from our shoes. I'm bringing another pair to use to walk outside to avoid this. I still need easy slip on for the airport.

I don't grow divas. I can't change my climate so I put the money and effort into the roses that can tolerate the heat better than others. For some roses, it may take a couple years to get that kind of sturdiness. With rose bushes now averaging $20-25 apiece, I'm not growing them as annuals. The tomato cage/shade cloth routine gives them at least a fighting chance. If the rose is just sulky, I'll give it a container and see if it perks up. By the 10th year, though, a rose that is more dying than living is going to find itself on the drought system. I may not be able to throw a semi-living plant in the dumpster but a dead one is easier to let go of :). I've also greatly reduced the number of roses I grow in my home garden from 300 to 100. Of course, we're moving in 10 days and 70 of the 100 aren't coming with me. The buyers are getting 1 year free rose consultation and a comp membership to the Phoenix Rose Society. If they don't want the roses, I'll haul them down to the public rose garden at Encanto Park. I will greatly miss my OGR's but I know the buyers will love the scent and size of them.

Week 63: Pets!!!!?!?!?!

Sadly I am petless for the first time ever. I lost both my dogs within a year of one another. I had to send my Black Lab across the bridge this February. As soon as we get some yard work finished I'l be starting a new pack. We've always had two or more dogs in the past but this last pair were close in age and when the Rot died the Lab had too many issues with his health going on for us to introduce another dog. Pet Friendly Plans For the House: 1. Replacing our current pet door insert with a door in the glass on our family room slider. 2.Tile flooring in family room and kitchen. 3. Dog food storage cabinet in new laundry room. (for the 40 lb. plus bags of kibble) 4. Additional dog food storage cab in the kitchen for the cans, treats and a weekly amount of kibble. Dog first aid kit will be here also. 5. We are working on a design for a good (around 4 foot tall) custom dog gate for the wide hall separating the formal living room/dining room from teh rest of the house. The dogs are allowed there by invitation only. Our last Rottie was very social and would break the front room window trying to get out to play so the tall gate became a necessity. We already have the higher fences (thinks to hyper social Rot again) and we have areas of our backyard chain linked off from the dogs which provides an extra level of security for the. They can't get to any of the fence lines bordering the front yard. The plan is to get another pair of dogs starting with, hopefully, a female Rot this fall. Later we will add a male something (probably another Lab) that will be compatible as a brother. Reason being that Rots are strong willed and require a firm hand but mature faster. Labs can be strong willed adolescents for several years before they settle. I think I can train one more set of puppies before I age out. Then we will go into older dogs or puppy raising for Guide Dogs depending on our health and mobility.

Well Lindy it used to Be the environmental Protection agency but for the last four years it has been the environmental pollution agency...and it's probably going to get worse. Bascially you create outfits, write a script have 2 people take turns announcing the outfits. Haute trash has been at it for years and do they have some racy outfits. and some gorgeous models to wear them. My modeling days are over was too fat to begin with and now it's just more fun being behind the scenes and creating outfits. there is also an amazing lady in New Mexico who does incredible detailed outfits using nails, etc. I will have to get my pics organized into a photo album to share with everyone. Iusually start with a thrift store dress and go from there. the last one I did binded by the light used the black plastic report bindings that get tossed outwhere I work. I usually create one outfit a year. theres no limit to the creativity.

No, this was over 40 years ago. But you know
how you 'weave' a mat...like a 'basket weave'?

That is what it sounds like he did!!! My DH
said they were real comfy!!! Probably better
than the hard plastic they make now!!!

You know it's funny, our generation was 'recycling'
out of 'necessity' before it was a 'fad' thing
to do.

Nothing got thrown away...it was mended or had
an alternative use!!!

Living in the city I have to shake my head at the
waste out on the curb that goes to landfills....
I wonder what the 'future' archeologist will
think about us!!!

I just asked my DH, and he said they still make innertubes. He said to check your local tire store, or even Walmart.

Now another question gals..... don't you think that after awhile of sittin my fat butt in this woven innertube it would start to stretch out??? LIke I'd be sittin on the ground in 2 years???? LOLWhen I think of innertubes I just keep thinking they are stretchy//??? But maybe not too.....stretchy.....hmmmmmm
