All-Refrigerator/ All-Freezer: Frigidaire, Electrolux, Icon
Comments (20)We have the Kenmore Pro ones (like these) which I think are made by Frigidaire. (?) We've only had them installed for 2 months, but before that they sat for 2 years in our dirty garage -- long story -- so we were a little worried about how they would work after sitting for all that time but bottom line, no problems, and we're thrilled with them. For the price they can't be beat. There are two slightly odd things about them however. One is that there's no meat drawer, which I was used to in our other fridge and I do miss that. There are two HUGE drawers which I love having, but we fill one with fruits and the other with veggies, so then I just have meat on one the shelf above the drawers, which is okay but I would rather have a drawer for it. The second odd thing is that the shelf structure above the drawers are actually attached to the drawers themselves and they don't seem to come off for cleaning. The glass itself lifts out, but the surrounding shelf frame doesn't detach from the drawer (at least that we could figure out!) which makes it awkward for cleaning as you can't just turn it upside down into your sink and dump out fallen particles. Those are very minor inconveniences for the space and convenience (especially the freezer space which is incredible), and overall I love these appliances and I would get them again in a heartbeat....See MoreFrigidaire/Electrolux all fridge/all freezer - performance data
Comments (5)We have 2 Elux all-fridges and 1 all-freezer. We purchased them in 2007, but moved in in 2008 and started using them. So, it's 6 1/2 yrs later, and we've had no service calls. 1 of the fridge's interior light has a will of its own, so doesn't always come on, and the readout occasionally tries to give me an error code. From what I could find online, that code is related to the evaporator fan motor... But it keeps working and the code goes away. It's done that for a few years now. I haven't had it checked. Meant to at first, but the fridge keeps working fine, so at this point, I'm figuring it's a false alarm. The other fridge and the freezer have had absolutely no problems. I know this is just one family's experience and opinion, and you're looking for more stats for a greater number of units, but I think they're a good bet. The only reason I might not buy them again is the way the drawers are attached to the shelves above so they're a pain to take out and get clean. Maybe they've changed that by now....See MoreRoom for all fridge/freezer?
Comments (7)Yes the counter depth 19cu have better layouts and you can indeed make better use of the space. At least in my experience. We switched to the all fridge and the space is so much more usable vs. our previous fridge which theoretically stored more stuff, but in practice it was stuff that grew penicillin while it lay hidden in the back. :) There's a thread linked below that has some all-fridge real life interiors that will give you an idea of whether it will work well for you in practice or not. And I think your layout looks great, btw... plenty of room for the all fridge and all freezer. Good luck with your new kitchen. Comments (12)Did not get to see the Electrolux icon model. Looked at both the fridgidaire and Electrolux models. They did not yet have the professional handles on the the fridgidaire model when I was looking at them. The bins on the Electrolux were nicer and glided better. Was going to go with the fridgidaire as it was at a better price point but when my appliance dealer came across the Electrolux pair for $3400 I grabbed them. The only drawback of them is the fridge doesn't even have a water dispenser inside the unit. That is the only thing I wish it had....See MorePeke
