Shadow box suggestions?

Does anyone have ideas for smaller shadow box items? I have a few shadow boxes with dividers in them and the sections are about 4-5 inches in size. Thanks

I've seen them done with seashells and other beachy type items. That would be cute if it matches your decor.

You can put anything you'd like in a shadow box. Think of what colors or themes you have in your house and go from there.

For the wire idea (which is what I've seen at my framer's and which I used once): Is there a removable backing board in the frame? Take it out, place it flat on a surface and place the spoons down on it to determine your placement. You might find it easier to mount them perfectly vertically, instead of angled (I know that'd probably look boring, but you'll get an easier mounting and they are less likely to slip over time). Then of course somehow mark the mounting board to figure out the placement of the holes for the wire. Use a very finepoint marker (I'd try to find a silver one so you don't get any tell-tale marks when the project's all done). Here's how I got the holes in the backing board for the wire: I placed the backing board over a piece of wood, then gently hammered a skinny nail where I'd made the marks. (I used this technique to do a display of fountain pens in a black shadow box. Sorry, no pictures -- after a couple years I took them out because I found an acrylic stand for them that I thought was much cooler for my space.) One other thing: As an alternative to the fine-gauge silver, or silvertone wire, which might turn color over time, you could experiment with using clear fishing line or the clear beading line that's sold with the jewelry making supplies in ACMoore and Michaels and such.

Okay. After posting before and looking at drawers to do the same type of thing you did, all I'm finding are drawers that the front is bigger, like the face of the drawer. Therefore, if you go to place it on the wall, it will be lopsided. Like the drawers are actually smaller than the face of the drawer. So did you have to shave the fronts of the drawers so that they would be equal with the actual drawers, the circumference, which then you'd have a nice fit on the wall? Or were your drawers already like that? Hopefully you know what I mean. :) I confuse people easily with my explanations sometimes. Thanks! Alicia

Looking for information on old prints(?) in shadow box frames

Linda, I am now sure these are prints, but the frames are puzzling to me. The backs are all wood, but I don't know what the black front and sides are made of. They are far from perfect, with some apparent repairs and some of the paint seems to be peeling. There are also tiny nail holes where they are attached to the back. The frame fronts are not wood, and almost sound like hollow plastic when tapped. At the same time, they do not really look or feel like plastic and some of the paint seems to be peeling. Any further ideas?

What do you like to collect??? Just collect it in "miniature" and you have a shadow box that pleases you...

I have vintage matchbooks from the fifties, lamp finials., pretty broaches, old baby blocks, tiny doll furniture, the glass "Knobs" off of old percolator coffee pots,,,,, so many shapes!!!, locket of mom's, big button, tiny plastic toys, old thimbles... oh my., so much stuff that I didn't want to put away and not enjoy!

My "shadowbox" used to be a wooden 7-up carton. It held 24 bottles and has hangholds cut out on the ends. I left it as it was and used the slots on the bottom to hang it on my wall. Simple but works well with small items! :)

A friend of mine collects old costume jewellry and filled a shadow box with old family photos and some of the jewellry she has collected. It looks great!

I had a few shadowboxes. When we renovated our bathroom, I painted them white and did mosaics in each one. Everybody remarks on them.
