So I spend $50 on a bottle cutter and it doesn't work so well. I have broken a lot of bottles (of all kinds) trying to get them to break on the etched line. The instructions say to etch only one time, heat the bottle along the etch line with a candle, then run a piece of ice along the line and it is supposed to break on the etched line. So they say. LOL I have tried etching several times, one time, using hot water inside, ice water outside & vice versa, the candle deal, using something to tap lightly on the inside and the outside of the bottle and everytime, it either breaks the bottle or cracks it, or both. Soooooo, I have given up for now, as it frustrated me to no end. I am back to square one. I am working on it though.

Yep, leave the cap off or the seedlings will roast. If you check out the forum on wintersowing here on gardenweb there's TONS of info in their FAQ page. Or just make a post there, there's LOADS of helpful people that will steer you in the right direction! :)

Thanks toomuchglass, and back at you! do you have a glass oven? might give these a try useing glass scraps. Kidd so glad you posted, was worried that I took over your post, as I see my photos were still in the old post, didnt check frist, I know I have seen bc jewelry over the years, just cant remenber who? I do use a whole punch, not sure of brand but works good, so hard to cut perfect circles. on the butterfly KC, the butterfly was a stick pin for memos, I cut most of the pin off left just enough to stick in the beads,added after the beads melted enough to stick it in, the red one is a clip on ear ring layed over red beads, the other was a charm I just layed on after beads melted so much, but not finished, the frist KC is paper with a small bubble thing and a dragonfly sticker, the rest is just plastic beads, you can use those name beads,spell out mom for a mothers day gift,not sure but some are plastic if so add toward the end so they dont melt much just enough so they stay, you can add a glass bead for accent, (glass beads wont melt in our ovens )lots of ideas there. while the beads are melting you can take another bc and press down on the beads to help them lay flatter, and fill out the cap better, you have to be quick cause they will harden up fast. hope this helps cant wait to see photos and see what you alls clever minds come up with. I helped my father make wine during my entire youth. He had upwards of 1000 ginger ale bottles (still have over 500 with wine in them dating back to the 70's), and I helped him cap many of them using a simple hand press with beer caps that were lined with cork. I just opened a bottle of 93 vintage today, and it tastes beyond belief good. He never added sulfites to his wine, just pure grapes, fermented in a wood barrel for a year then bottled the next year. So, an occasional bottle would go bad, and it would land up in the vinegar barrel for some of the best vinegar to be had. So, old fashion cork beer bottle tops, if they can still be purchased, seems to be a good choice. Actually, the cork I took off this bottle was cork lined and said Lemon Lime Soda on its top. Who knows where he got these corks things from. Oh, he stored all the bottles in a cellar, just standing up. Of course, there was build up on the bottom of each bottle that was not drinkable. One just carefully poured from the storing bottle, into the serving bottle to not get any of the stuff which had built up over the years at the bottom of the bottle.
