I have had Santos Mahogany in my living room and entranceway for eight years. We have Lauzon Nextstep engineered. It is quite nice and we get many compliments on it, but in retrospect it is perhaps a little too red. We are building a new home and will probably go with walnut. I respectfully disagree with the poster above. The floor definitely darkens with time and exposure. The color variation will reduce over time and become more uniform and the floor will turn a deeper red.

Lynn, Thanks again for the compliments. The would is 3/4 x 3 1/4. The wood is Santos Mahogany select from Lumber liquidators, it is the Bellawood select prefinished. I read up alot about lumberliquidators quality problems but after inspecting and installing the product I didn't find more than 5% wood that I did not install or just installed in a closet. I was fortunate to find wood from a local fellow off craigslist selling 1500 sq/ft. I got an unbelievable price and jumped all over it. The sheen is just the prefinshed stuff they use at the factory. I think you can read about it at their website. Overall I think it is a great product even though I have read some horror stories from people on the internet dealing with LL. I think that the horror stories are from people trying to glue down a 3/4 solid to a concrete slab and watching it buckle from moisture. That is a beautiful floor. It's just about the right color to provide a warm, "kitchen-y" feel and a nice contrast to oak. Is mahogany available rift and quartersawn to emphasize the grain? Hard to tell from the photo. And do you recall the board width by any chance?

Mine did not darken either. I don't have curtains, but it is in northern facing room, so not that much light. It's been down about 8 years, and if anything it is a very tad lighter than the wood under my area rug that has been down the whole time. I love it, but that's because of the color and the variation. It does scratch fairly easily and because it is so dark, it shows the scratches. However, we have not babied it at all, and I think it still looks good - especially when it's clean. HA!
