Need crackle paint formula

I know I've read it here, but do you think I can find it now that I need it, no of course not. Need recipe for crackle paint application. Sue/Teacupgarden

I just put on a coat of Elmers and a coat of paint while it's still wet and sit back and watch the fun.

You can use water down hide glue, paint it over latex paint, let dry till tacky then paint with your second color (top coat). Use single strokes with the direction you want to go, do not try to touch up the paint with more strokes, it will mess up the crackle effect.

Does this look like 'Atlantic' for those of you who have it? Unless you're going into RL Paint, it's mostly meaningless. Every companies colorants are a little different...some a LOT different! Different brands also have differing levels and shades of white in the native tint-base. I make this color somewhat frequently, and 98% of the time, it's into RL paint. Sometimes customers want it into C2 paint, so that's another formula! Faron

The asphalt siding does have a very faint brink red as well as a green. Since our roof and gutters are green I'd rather not do green. Could you please explain more about the additional color in the window framing detail? Where would it be exactly? Do you think a brick red for the trim around the windows and perhaps the ironwork and then a different color for the door? I did google images of asphalt siding but I didn't find anything original or in good repair. Everything was about getting rid of it. Thanks for the input!

I have never used hide glue and i have an old table i want to crackle the top on.

Elmer's wood glue worked best for me just water it down a touch!!

A lady who does the faux finish classes at our local Sherwin Williams swears by wallpaper paste for a crackle medium. Put on between your paint colors, she claims it works better than the special "crackle" products.
